Shooting down ICBM's is a dicey business at best. Terminal velocity can reach about 18,000 mph. Sending a missile from NK to Guam only takes about 14 mins so there is very little time to react. The stuff the DOD has been testing has about a 50% hit.

I think there is only two likely outcomes, a war with casualties in the millions and damages in the trillions or North Korea becomes a nuclear power that can seriously threaten a nuclear war against the US and South East Asia.

Kim Jong un is not planning on attacking the US or it's possessions. His game plan is to vividly demonstrate to the US and the world that NK poses a serious threat. Then and only then will he come to the bargaining table.

In order to develop accurate ICBM's that can hit the US, NK needs long down range testing such as the area around GUAM, about 2,200 miles.
