Reagan COULD have gone anti-gun after he was shot, and with him PUSHING such an agenda, we'd have lost all of our rights, but he didn't. So that's another HUGE reason to call him a great man. Perhaps not much of a President, but a great man, nonetheless.

Reagan is the only president ( democrat or republican ) to significantly and permanently reduce the number of nuclear weapons in the world.
He embraced the intermediate arms agreement which eliminated an entire class of nuclear weapons.
The Soviets and the US alike dismantled thousands of nukes as a result.
Many down play it as a trivial drop in the bucket but despite all the peace rhetoric from the left no one has ever come close to this accomplishment

Your concern for Europe is very touching but I'm more interested in my own country.
Reaga was one of the most corrupt, most crooked presidents. Made the US into a debtor nation. Brought our health care system to ruin. We will never get out from under the damage he did. Raised taxes 11 times on the working class, cut taxes for the wealthy, 11% unemployment (5.4 under Obama), tripled the fed deficit (Obama has cut it by 3/4ths). Reagan was a good prez for the 1% but almost everything he did harmed the country and the working class.
The well-meaning Socialist EMTALA was a disaster that wiped out many hospitals, trauma and burn centers and continues to cost the tax payers more than it was ever worth.
By any standard, Ronnie Ray-Gun and his astroligers were a disaster for the country.
OP needs to brush up on history. Gorby did not tear down the wall because Ronnie told him to. Reagan did do one thing right - he started the treaty that Obama brought to fruition. Reagan was most certainly in favor of gun control.

The argument can be made that if it wasn't for St Reagan propping up the USSR it would have collapsed even sooner.
