It took Hitler less than 6 months to tighten his grip on power. As I watched this programme I was struck by the similarities between Germany and the US. Hitler and Trump.

Hitler waged war on German institutions. Its government, its press and of course its court system. When he had finished there was nothing left.He burned fown the Reichstag. Trump lanched an invasion of Congress.

Hitler told Germans that he was the only answer to the problems of the state. Trump is doing that right now.

Hitlers followers had a violent core of street thugs who beat and murdered anybody that Hitler didnt like, They were paramilitary and wore their own uniforms. A bit like the proud boys and oath keepers. Violent thugs.

The threats of violence to prosecutors, judges and juries is something that they both share.

Hitler took his revenge on those who opposed him. Check out the story of Hans Litten. He was murdered in a camp for the crime of humiliating Hitler in court.

Of course Trump is threatening revenge on everyone who gets in his way.

Hitler and his group despised democracy. So do Trump and his chums. They just want power and too many "wrong" people vote. Election denying is pure fascism when it does not present any evidence. Its not just that trump is a narcissist. He is a deeply evil man.Like Hitler.

Literally the reason there is such a correlation is the simple fact that the man Trump, who reads nothing ,had a book on his bed stand for his nightly reading, The book was written by Adolf Hitler called "My new order" This is the book that researchers study to find out how Hitler was able to take over Germany with his hatred ugliness and cruelty. The Book was simply his public speeches in the front side of his time in power. It was no mystery to me to find out how dictators used the lie as one of their main tools to gain power. Agreed, the US does have a long history of populists or fascists. But they were mostly on the state level. None were able to lead on the national stage.

Unluckily for us, Trump broke through to the national level. But luckily for us, Trump is inept. His bumbling, his crimes, his inability to get things done, his inability to stay focused, etc has so far saved us.

But that doesn't mean that there aren't trump-minis around the corner who would be more focused and more able to push through their agenda. Hopefully, we have learned our lesson and can stop these future Hitlers before they make too much of an inroad.

We'll know a lot more after the 2024 elections. They've set the template of refusing to accept election results, and have since put a great deal of effort into placing confederates in key positions within the electoral process in several states. There's no reason to believe they won't pull every possible string there.

There are many Republicans who have been sounding the alarm on this for a long time, but of course they've been shunned and marginalized by this "movement". Their alarm seemed a little hyperbolic early on, but they're certainly turning out to be prescient. Their relationships within the party informed them well.

One of the mistakes many have made is in mocking the sheer lunacy of this, and not taking it seriously. Meanwhile, these people have not only continued to manipulate the base, but they have also animated them. Just as with 9/11, the holy warriors have been at war with us, even though we aren't at war with them.

So, we'll see next November.

I think I'm in the minority on this, but I don't look at it like that at all.

To me, (most of) these people love their country and want what's best for it. But they have not only been terribly manipulated since the day Limbaugh went national, but they have literally been radicalized. You look in their eyes, and talk to them, and they're just not connected. Remember, they're operating from within an entirely self-contained, isolated, insulated, ideological/informational ecosystem.

And this bizarre, quasi-religious element only makes it worse. Many of them really do think they're saving America from evil.

So they're not lying when they say what they say. They absolutely believe it. And that's the goddamn problem. I only WISH they were lying.
