How does one fix this problem???

Selling the youth of America short seems to be the national conservative pastime these days. Don't think for a minute that they are too preoccupied with X box to notice how anti youth the right has become. If they alienate the youth how are the republicans going to replace their increasingly elderly numbers?

We are anti youth now?

Seriously, do you guys ever stop with this nonsense?

Return to the constitution and the rule of law. Make the federal government so boring that politics and the media will return to the states.

While I completely agree with the sentiment, how exactly does that solve the problem with the rising generation feeling entitled to things and being unwilling to work for them?
Let them repeatedly fail until they get the message of thier own individual responsibility.

Yes you are anti-youth,

the rising generation feeling entitled to things and being unwilling to work for them?

You seem to be giving up on an entire generation because of the laziness and naivete common to every generation of young people that has ever lived including yours and mine, I like to think we turned out OK in spite of once being young and foolish, they too will be alright.

Well there would be an immediate jolt to the economy which would ripple through the political spectrum of society. This jolt would have unpredictable outcomes, as the free markets take over and lines work towards natural equilibrium. Most important people will once agian take an active participation in politics because they will actually have influence.

One thing is for sure, the states cant print anymore money. So either the perpetual war goes and entitlements are addressed, the entitlements go and social security turns into a tax.

This is going to happen if we want it or not. When debt grows exponentially faster then income the only way to keep up is to print money which will ultimately destroy the dollar. It is better we stay in control of such things to make the transition as smooth as possible. No longer time to play reactionary.

In answer to the question: If you feel that the attitude of today's youth is a problem that we should worry about then nothing will be changed by writing them off or attempting to stand in their way as they take ownership of their world. They look at us who had undreamed of opportunity handing them a world where they will be worse off then we were, They have not been here long enough to screw-up the world but they see us, the boomers, getting SS but making plans to take it away, denying climate change, dismantling the safety nets, allowing the rich to cement their rule for another generation, refusing to conserve resources, polluting the world and handing them nothing but a debt that we refuse to help pay. Conservatives have the nerve to call them screwed up? We have failed in giving our dependents a decent world to live in, it is not possible to fail worse then that.

So we are talking about ways to help the rising generation overcome this problem they face, so clearly we are giving up on them and are obviously anti-youth?

Did you even attempt to think that one through?

Yeah to that!
For the first time since the New Deal the conservatives (some of whom are R, some D) have questioned if we can any longer afford to burden our children with the piling up of debt from entitlements, and have tried to make at least some effort to recognize and correct the system before it's too late for them to be able to come close the opportunity society our generation has enjoyed.

So when you going to start talking about helping them instead of ways to take it all with you when you die? If you have no faith in them how are you going to help them make a world anyone would want?

Bullshit, without the safety nets our society will be unrecognizable to any of us 20th century bastards who piled up this debt and rather than bite the bullet and make the hard sacrifices ourselves we are just going to pawn it all off on them.

Never ever called for piercing holes in the safety net. It's still there in the form of Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and ADC, but there has to be a fiscally sound way of preserving them before it's too late, because they are not sustainable in their present forms. A partial transition must begin for SS to something more like the Galveston Plan or the Chilean model for people presently under 50 or 40.

For Medicaid and Medicare, there have to be free market competitive incentives put into play so that people feel more like they have a stake in keeping costs down, instead of just making sure they get their share. The Republicans have tried to create models that make individuals more aware of their medical expenses, letting them retain savings from making sound choices as tax free supplement to their own retirement funding.

Medicaid has to be Block Granted back to the states where they can become responsible for their own citizens, and will not be able to shift fraud and waste in their programs to other states, I.E. the federal government. They need incentives to do that. Now they are punished for instituting waste and fraud savings.

The Democrat/liberal plan for these programs is to resist change and demagogue the issues, claiming that the other side wants to take away the safety net to the point the subject is called the “third rail;” if you touch it you die. Refreshingly the Republican/conservative side wants a debate on the subject, a halt to the demagoguery, and getting a handle on our fiscal future.
