I’m not too sure, but I think I see your deeper point, besides simply that Trump Republican propagandists are insatiable: Trump is like Henry II, and Thomas Beckett is like Democracy and our Republican Institutions.

I would only argue that Trump, as a cunning megalomaniacal demagogue, is much more the agent in all his political crimes against our nation and democracy than Henry II was of the murder of Thomas Beckett.

When you accept a plea agreement, you don't want to walk out of court after a 5 year investigation, after pleading guilty and paying restitution, you don't want these clowns to hand you new charges as you're leaving court.

Such agreements don't apply to any future crimes you commit. If you do something illegal in future, or you fail to live up to the plea agreement, you can still be charged if you commit new crimes. The judge's objection to the plea agreement was two-fold:

1. She questioned why, after an extensive 5 year DOJ/IRS investigation, there were only 2 misdemeanor charges. That's not much uncovered given the resources expended in going after HB; and

2. The Plea Agreement was poorly written and appeared to make the judge the arbiter of whether HB complies with the terms of the agreement or whether more charges are warranted. She wants no part of any future decisions on charges. That's a DOJ decision.
