I was stunned to hear the WH staff, past and present since January hasn't undergone lie-detector tests to find the leakers. This is standard practice at the CIA and other defense-related agencies and includes everybody from gate-keepers to the agency heads on a regular basis. So there is no legal reason this can't or should happen.

Now, there are several urban legends on how to beat a polygraph test, from having a tack in your shoe, to puckering your bunghole. Sociopaths can beat the machine if they've convinced themselves there's nothing wrong with what they did. And the tests are only as good as the person administering the test as slight variations in blood-pressure and perspiration can be revealing or missed. The tests aren't admitted as evidence in court for this reason, but any police detective will tell you, if you beat the test, they'll likely get off you.

Just announcing the testing will begin Monday morning should bring the culprits to a come-to-Jesus moment and stammering confessions. DO IT.

Incidentally, those in the press charged with obtaining classified information for commercial purposes, will be now be arrested and polygraphed. If you're a leaker you might want to think about what your chances are of evading the same fate as the journalist getting sweated and giving you up.
