It was identified by Jonathan Haidt, a social psychologist at the University of Virginia who studies the intuitive foundations of morality and ideology. He polled his audience at the San Antonio Convention Center, starting by asking how many considered themselves politically liberal. A sea of hands appeared, and Dr. Haidt estimated that liberals made up 80 percent of the 1,000 psychologists in the ballroom. When he asked for centrists and libertarians, he spotted fewer than three dozen hands. And then, when he asked for conservatives, he counted a grand total of three.

“This is a statistically impossible lack of diversity,” Dr. Haidt concluded, noting polls showing that 40 percent of Americans are conservative and 20 percent are liberal.

He "concluded, but presents no evidence. In fact, check out this one student who is basically saying, "They would laugh at my conclusions so why try?":

I avoid the topic of politics around work,” one student wrote. “Given what I’ve read of the literature, I am certain any research I conducted in political psychology would provide contrary findings and, therefore, go unpublished. Although I think I could make a substantial contribution to the knowledge base, and would be excited to do so, I will not.”

I was checking out what science conservative schools teach. Now come on people. How can you insist that there must be more than 6% of scientists who are Republican when you attend such, I hate to use the word, "schools"?

If you want a real hoot, check out, "Liberty".

The Creation Studies minor

The minor in creation studies provides a flexible program with a broad training in scientific disciplines that relate to origins as well as the Bible. Students in science or non-science majors can benefit from the in depth study of creation and evolution.

The Creation Studies Minor is 20 hours and classes include CRST 290 and 390, as well as BIBL 410.

The student will be able to:

Demonstrate a consistent, biblical worldview regarding origins
Explain key scientific evidences and arguments used to support the theory of evolution as well as difficulties with the theory
Provide scientific and biblical arguments in support of creation.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Center for Creation Studies is to promote the development of a consistent biblical view of origins in our students. The Center seeks to equip students to defend their faith in the creation account in Genesis using science, reason, and the Scriptures.

At some point, the "anti science" and "war on reason" nonsense has to stop. It's too damaging to the country.

You can whine all day long rdean, it does not change the fact that the guy you just called a Republican is actually an expert on morality and politics, and has actually published articles saying things a lot like what you say.

The truth has triumphed, at least for those attending this week’s Tea Party convention in Nashville: Obama is a socialist fascist communist statist Muslim whose healthcare “reform” would destroy the world’s greatest healthcare system and force Americans to wait in long lines so that their medical requests could be reviewed by death panels. This is not truth as you and I know it, but this statement (or at least parts of it) is believed to be true by the millions of Americans who coalesced into the Tea Party movement of 2009, which reinvigorated the political right just a few months after it had been declared dead. “What is wrong with those people?” ask so many people on the left. The answer from research in moral psychology is: Nothing.

Larry J. Sabato's Crystal Ball » What is wrong with those Tea Partiers?

Newsflash rdean, even liberals think you are an idiot.

That's hilarious. You use a post from a guy who says:

Obama is a socialist fascist communist statist Muslim whose healthcare “reform” would destroy the world’s greatest healthcare system and force Americans to wait in long lines so that their medical requests could be reviewed by death panels.

And the guy takes the statement seriously. Funny.

I love it when right wingers talk "morals". This is a group that wants to "end abortion" and then turns heartlessly cold once the kid is born.

Even Right Wing Republican Andre Bauer is against abortion, but says, "Feed the poor and they'll BREED".

Insurance companies ARE "death panels" and are supported 100% by the Republican base, many of whom either can't afford HC or have gone bankrupt trying to pay medical bills.

Nothing more laughable than right wingers "teaching morals". Hey, don't you have an abortion to stop? A school lunch for children getting only one good meal a day to phase out? A war to start? Some oil company to apologize to? I bet you do.

The guy is a lfet winger talking about ethics, and he is pointing out the blatant bias that he sees in himself and his profession. Yet, in your world, this somehow makes him a right wign Republican.

By the way, that law you like so much supports the insurance companies a lot more than Republicans ever did. Why do you think they lobbied so hard for it, and contributed so much to Democrats?

They lobbied for it and contributed so much to Democrats? How much?

The reason the law made an attempt to include everyone was because Republicans defeated a public option. The more people who belong, the more the cost is spread out. Currently, people who use emergency rooms for HC cost 10 to hundreds of times as much. This cost goes to the local taxpayers which means hospitals shut down and then poor people are left with nothing. Which, according to Andre Bauer, means they won't "breed". Especially if you starve them. But AFTER that women is forced to give birth. Nice.

This thread is about Republicans who hate education and are anti science.

A "statistical impossibility" he "concludes" because it just "can't be right". It just can't be.

Only, it is. Read what right wingers and Republicans ON THIS VERY SITE say about science and scientists. That is all you need to do.

The real question is why would anyone think there would be more than 6%? That, I don't get at all.

Hey, have you ever checked out the curriculum from those Christian Universities? Not the Catholic ones, but the ones like "Liberty" and "Bob Jones"? They don't teach "science". They teach "Natural Science". Stuff like, "Bees pollinate flowers" and "plants have chlorophyll". Stuff you learn in "secondary school" or as some refer to it, "Junior High".

6% of Republicans are unemployed

And the vast majority of the ones that are employed, owe that employment to "scientists, engineers and the educated". Odd that.

No, he concludes that because, despite being a liberal, he is honest.

6% of rdean's post contain anything of value to anyone with an IQ over 6.

Hey, check out some of those other right wing threads. About Republicans cutting science funding. About Faith VS Science. There are so many.

It cracks me up the number of right wingers that attack science. And then there are the right wingers who insist many on the right ARE scientists. Can't be both. In fact, it isn't.

Liberty University.
I recall seing Falwell and Robertson on TV saying how they were going to churn out lawyers to take America over from within.
Working pretty well for them so far.
Bush hired lots of Liberty University graduates into the justice dept and such.

6% of fat chicks are Republicans

Oh no. It's way, weigh more than 6%.

Republicans are working to destroy education in this country. It's how they plan to create a "level playing field".

Man, I would love to say, Republicans are responsible for building "Fill in the blank". But the only thing they build is disaster. This is a party that gives tax breaks to millionaires while the economy is going under. Then their leaders concentrate on stopping "abortion" and cutting off funding for the poor.

And then, some have the nerve to insist more than 6% of scientists are Republicans. What on earth could give them such an idea?

Liberals have been running the education system for the last 50 years, they fucked it up
