Hersh: Children sodomized at Abu Ghraib, on tape

After Donald Rumsfeld testified on the Hill about Abu Ghraib in May, there was talk of more photos and video in the Pentagon’s custody more horrific than anything made public so far. “If these are released to the public, obviously it’s going to make matters worse,” Rumsfeld said. Since then, the Washington Post has disclosed some new details and images of abuse at the prison. But if Seymour Hersh is right, it all gets much worse.

Hersh gave a speech last week to the ACLU making the charge that children were sodomized in front of women in the prison, and the Pentagon has tape of it. The speech was first reported in a New York Sun story last week, which was in turn posted on Jim Romenesko’s media blog, and now EdCone.com and other blogs are linking to the video. We transcribed the critical section here (it starts at about 1:31:00 into the ACLU video.) At the start of the transcript here, you can see how Hersh was struggling over what he should say:

this is outrageous and it gives a great example of who our enemy is, it also highlights exactly why Sweden has become "rape central"

this is also 11 years old - it is worth talking about though, because the mindset of these people has not changed

these are the people that Trump is fighting to keep out & these are the people that Trump is being called a "racist" over

it's certainly fair to keep this story in the discussion

thx for posting

Judge Orders Release of Abu Ghraib Child Rape Photos

NEW YORK A federal judge ruled today that graphic pictures of detainee abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison must be released over government claims that they could damage America's image. Last year a Republican senator conceded that they contained scenes of "rape and murder" and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said they included acts that were "blatantly sadistic."

U.S. District Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein ordered the release of certain pictures in a 50-page decision that said terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan have proven they "do not need pretexts for their barbarism."

The ACLU has sought the release of 87 photographs and four videotapes taken at the prison as part of an October 2003 lawsuit demanding information on the treatment of detainees in U.S. custody and the transfer of prisoners to countries known to use torture.

"'The American public needs to understand we're talking about rape and murder here. We're not just talking about giving people a humiliating experience,' Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina told reporters after Rumsfeld testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee. 'We're talking about rape and murder -- and some very serious charges.'

"A report by Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba on the abuse at the prison outside Baghdad says videotapes and photographs show naked detainees, and that groups of men were forced to masturbate while being photographed and videotaped. Taguba also found evidence of a 'male MP guard having sex with a female detainee.'

"Rumsfeld told Congress the unrevealed photos and videos contain acts 'that can only be described as blatantly sadistic, cruel and inhuman.'"

It may not be recent, but it still shows the mindset of who and what we are up against

Why would the pathetic left dig up Abu Ghraib these days? It's all they have? Are they going to get away with with "anonymous unverified sources" to claim atrocities that allegedly happened more than ten years ago? More people died in the bungled federal assault on Waco than Abu Ghraib during the Clinton administration. If Waco happened in Iraq the media would have called for Bush's head.

Yeah we're an exceptional bunch ain't we.

Sure, the real question though is how is your selectivity?

Because it is an american phenomenon.

No. It is a human phenomenon. Man prefers good over evil and when he violates it rather than abandoning the concept, he rationalizes that he didn't violate it. Luckily for us, error cannot stand. It eventually falls. Why? Because virtue is the greatest organizing principle. The problem is that everything is cyclical. If you were not selective in your approach, you might see these things too.

Perhaps we should have had this revulsion to our Islamic radical allies buggering little boys when we first partnered up with them. That seems a tad selective.

Sounds like bbbbbbbbbbbbbbut Benghazi and "what difference does it make" don't it.

Is Seymour Hirsh claiming that members of the U.S. Military were involved in sodomizing children? One thing you can count on is that democrats really hate the Military and they will turn on the Soldiers once they are out of power.

I see. Did your (i.e. your) condemnation end when Bush left office and Obama took office?

The whole thing could be bogus or exaggerated but if it's true my guess is that the Post was leaked unverified and non authenticated information indicating that the Pentagon may have in possession of surveillance tapes that showed depraved Abu Ghraib inmates sodomizing their own kids or kids who were brought into the prison by local citizens. Apparently the local culture saw nothing wrong with it and U.S. Military personnel may have either ignored it under orders or were not aware of it. Naturally the Post decided to table the story until a republican administration came along and then released it with a spin that implicated the Military and it worked. Look at the title of the post.

Did american policy alter course? Of course not. And it will not under Don either. Funny how you partisanshtiheads miss that.
