Facebook introduced dozens of options for users to identify their gender today.

Previously, users had to identify themselves as male or female. They were also given the option of not answering or keeping their gender private.

User’s can now select a “custom” gender option.

“There’s going to be a lot of people for whom this is going to mean nothing, but for the few it does impact, it means the world,” Facebook software engineer Brielle Harrison told the Associated Press. Harrison, who worked on the project, is in the process of gender transition, from male to female.

Before this got posted, someone else used the terms gender fluid and cis whatever.
that's when I realized I was behind the times.

people have become so sensitive that labels of male and female
impose social stereotypes, they go out of their way to affirm other choices.

instead of red, yellow, green
they want blue-violet and orange-red which is different from red-orange

we are getting more specific which is fine
but this overapologetic approach is what is turning people off

having to say cis so you don't call one case the norm and imply the other is abnormal
is a bit extreme for me

why not remove the emotional biases otherwise attached to male and female
or both/neither/other

why overcompensate by dancing around and around the issue
