finally some good environmental news. Now once we can prosecute the frauds who pushed this monstrous theory on us all, the better we all will be.

They must have found a new bill that they can bury the important parts in and no one will care or any who oppose it can be declared racists.

Immie

True. They will bury it in a bill naming a new post office after MLK. Hell, nobody reads the fucking things anyway.

Senate Democrats abandon comprehensive energy bill

Senate Democrats abandon comprehensive energy bill - Yahoo! News

way to go :clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2:

I wonder if they can smell november yet

That news combined with the possibility enough Dems may be supporting extending the Bush tax cuts, has the dow +200 today. Yup, enough of them do smell November.

I've only heard of a handful of Democrats talk about not letting the Bush Tax cuts Expire. Where are you hearing their might be enough to actually extend them?

well, in this recession, it would only make sense to do so.

Not to Democrats

Reid and Kerry blame it on the Republicans... who would have guessed that?

Reid Blames GOP For Energy Bill Failure But Not All Democrats Were On Board : NPR

But, according to NPR:

Reid Blames GOP For Energy Bill Failure But Not All Democrats Were On Board

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), the lead sponsor of the bill who appeared with Reid, said, "We've always known from day one that to pass comprehensive energy reform, you've got to have 60 votes. As we stand here today we don't have one Republican vote."

But they didn't have all 59 Democratic votes either.

Some Democrats, notably those in coal-producing and manufacturing states, agree with the GOP argument that the bill would lead to higher energy costs. The Washington Post's Perry Bacon points out the difficulty Reid had in getting his troops in line:

In truth, despite weeks of meetings to reach a compromise, Democrats themselves were deeply divided on the legislation. ...

A group of Democrats whose states produce coal, such as Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.V.) thought the bill could lead to increased energy costs in their states, while others worried about pushing such a controversial political issue after Democrats had already passed the stimulus and health-care bills.

Those damned Republicans!

The Obama-Pelosi Lame Duck Strategy
Union 'card-check,' cap and trade, and so much more.
By JOHN FUND

...

Mike Allen of Politico.com reports one reason President Obama failed to mention climate change legislation during his recent, Oval Office speech on the Gulf oil spill was that he wants to pass a modest energy bill this summer, then add carbon taxes or regulations in a conference committee with the House, most likely during a lame-duck session. The result would be a climate bill vastly more ambitious, and costly for American consumers and taxpayers, than moderate "Blue Dogs" in the House would support on the campaign trail. "We have a lot of wiggle room in conference," a House Democratic aide told the trade publication Environment & Energy Daily last month.

Many Democrats insist there will be no dramatic lame-duck agenda. But a few months ago they also insisted the extraordinary maneuvers used to pass health care wouldn't be used. Desperate times may be seen as calling for desperate measures, and this November the election results may well make Democrats desperate.
