The United Nations can't promote human rights worldwide and prevent future wars and suffering on a mass scale( main objectives). Moreover, this organization suffers from a bloated bureaucracy, in which seniority is not linked to ability, resulting in painfully slow decision-making and operational failure in such crises as Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia.

This raises the question that this debate is focused around- has the UN failed?

I'd like to see the UN moved to another country.

Me too.

The UN is useless and does nothing but take up valuable space in NYC.

They started off with a great idea unfortunately its turned into a paper tiger with no teeth.

They sanction but thats all they do unless you get someone who calls them to task and then they might get off their fat asses and do something. Or not.

In many ways it has and for the reasons you named.

The UN has failed in creating a world government but it has been quite successful in marshaling resources for relief efforts. It is as it should be--a church we go to once a year at Christmas time when we need to buy ourselves some goodwill

The U.N. was destined to fail from the get go. garbage in/garbage out.

The garbage, in this case, has to do with incorporating the representatives of authoritarian states, quasi-theocracies, tin pot dictatorships and any other manner of illiberal backwardness and then investing a sense of validity in their resultant exercise in politics.

The farce inherent in creating a democratic platform comprised of so many who simply do not believe in democracy seems lost on too many people. Just looking at the way the UNHRC acts to persecute one small minority above all else is a pretty clear indication that the foxes have truly been let loose to watch the hen house.

The blue helmets RUN every time they encounter trouble. And any organization that has Iran chair it's human rights council has long outlived it's usefulness.

By way of comparison, the UN makes our federal government look like a model of efficiency.

It's time they relocate to anywhere else and going forward the US pays only our fair share of its operating costs in lieu of continuing to take it up the ass for the benefit of other member countries.

Also, we should not appoint a UN ambassador any longer. Instead we could be represented on a rotating basis by young diplomats in training. If any issue of importance comes up and needs addressing, the trainee just calls the Sec. of State or other appropriate department for marching orders.

Nothing but third world marxists, totalitarian communists and European socialists trying to bleed this country dry. Its time to rid ourselves of that worthless nuisance.

It's worked out pretty well for victors of WWII. Not so much for the Nazis, Imperial Japan and the Arabs(who lost their empire in WWI)
