Harpoon the 'protesters'

Their intent was not destructive. They did not cause harm. It was a form of non-violent civil disobedience. From your Link......

Forest Rescue said it was “making a stand to assist Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in their campaign to end illegal whale poaching in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.”

“We are taking this action to remind the Australian government of their obligation to enforce existing laws pertaining to the prohibition of whaling ships in our waters,” the group added.

These self-promoting eco-idiots ARE endangering people with their irresponsible and criminal behavior.

I think in this case, this group, is higher up the food chain. They seem to be good at stealth too. Japan does need to pay more attention to the effects of their actions, especially the illegal ones.

You need to read more about it. These fools nearly got several people killed last year with their promotional stunts.

All the rich people in Japan coudn't eat a whale if all they ate was whale meat for a week. I doubt this is a controversy of rich v. whales.

Whales, like dolphins are highly intelligent creatures with a definable language and social structure. When we start killing off people who breed a lot we can start killing off the whales.

whales =/= people

people > whales

That's a deal.

We have abortion. Abortion was targetted to kill off black people and the poor.

Get your harpoon out.

The SS are not peaceful, they have caused harm in the past. The story says they didn't cause any harm, the truth may be that they didn't have the chance.

Apparently the answer to world starvation is to feed the very poorest to the next very poorest. If that doesn't feed the children, then take those next poorest and feed them to the next poorest above them.

Likely the animals of the "poor" aren't nearly as intelligent as the average whale.

Playing Catch-Up.

Activism

Sea Shepherd engages in conventional protests and direct actions to protect marine wildlife. Sea Shepherd operations have included interdiction against commercial fishing, shark poaching and finning, seal hunting, and whaling.[2][23] The group has been active in intervening against fishing and poaching in the South Pacific, the Mediterranean, and in waters around the Galapagos Islands.

According to its mission statement, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society "uses innovative direct-action tactics to investigate, document, and take action when necessary to expose and confront illegal activities on the high seas".[24] Those actions have included scuttling and disabling commercial whaling vessels at harbor, ramming other vessels, throwing glass bottles of butyric acid on the decks of vessels at sea, boarding of whaling vessels while at sea, and seizure and destruction of drift nets at sea. As of 2009, Paul Watson has said that the organization has sunk ten whaling ships while also destroying millions of dollars worth of equipment.[25] Their practice of attacking and sinking other ships has led to reports of injuries to other sailors as well as the Sea Shepherd crew, including concussions and complications from chemical attacks.[26][27]

Watson considers the actions of Sea Shepherd to be against criminal operations and has called the group an anti-poaching organization.[17] Critics claim that Sea Shepherd's actions constitute violations of international law,[28] while Watson has stated that Sea Shepherd believes that their actions constitute an attempt to enforce international conservation laws and international maritime law under the World Charter for Nature adopted by the United Nations .[29][30] Australia has declared Japan's hunt in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary to be illegal, federal court judge Jim Allsop has stated "there is no practical mechanism by which orders of this court can be enforced."[31] The lack of official enforcement mechanisms in that law prompted the Society to adopt, without official sanction, what it sees as a law enforcement mission. A 2008 academic paper by researchers at Monash University concluded that the group "may be best categorized as a vigilante group, because they say they are seeking to enforce a legal status quo because of states' and the international community's inabilities or unwillingness to do so."[12]

Watson left Greenpeace in 1977 after being expelled from the board of directors due to his confrontational methods.[32] Since then, Greenpeace has criticized Sea Shepherd for the group's tactics,[33] particularly regarding its interaction with whaling ships while at sea. The rival environmental group maintains Sea Shepherd is a violent organization whose tactics may endanger the lives of fishermen and whalers.[34][35] Greenpeace has called Watson a violent extremist and will no longer comment on his activities.[11] Greenpeace is also critical of the group on its website and state: "By making it easy to paint anti-whaling forces as dangerous, piratical terrorists, Sea Shepherd could undermine the forces within Japan which could actually bring whaling to an end".[36] Both groups protest the Japanese whale hunts in the Southern Ocean but Greenpeace has a policy to not assist Sea Shepherd in finding the whalers.

These activist assholes need to be arrested for their own good. Or just sunk. Either way.

As soon as someone makes Japan live up to the international Whaling conventions and stop trying to pretend they are doing "research" when they are killing an endangered species because rich Japanese people want to eat whale meat.

Just to show that the Douchbaggery of the Wealthy is not limited to this country.

You should see what they do to dolphins.

You should see what happens to tuna, chickens, cows, pigs, carrots, lettuce, etc.

So we're not really sure how many of these animals there are left, but hey, let's let the Japanese kill them for meat for rich people. Sure. Why not?
.

Trying for the class warfare angle, comrade?

ain't the poor Japanese working stiff that are eating this stuff.

So let's kill a nearly intelligent, peaceful species so a few rich douchebags can have the vicarious thrill of doing something forbidden.

Again, nice to see douchbaggery isn't limited to American rich jerks.

Very true. But if you go downtown and start stomping kittens, most decent people would come out and kick your ass for doing it.

If this were a case where human lives were in danger or there was a substance in these whales that cured cancer, then you might have an argument here.

But this is about a delicacy food, and really, it is no different then when they killed whales for ambergris for perfume.

1) None of which are as intelligent as wales.

2) Most of which are bred specifically for the purpose of being eaten.

People hunt and kill (and then eat!) animals in the wild all the time. And the 'intelligent' argument is a joke. Dogs are a hundred times smarter than whales and we've eaten them for millenia.
