We are not a true democracy where the majority rules. Our constitutional Republic is designed so that the majority can NEVER violate a person's constitutional rights.

For instance, gays went to the Supreme Court to protect their right to marry when the majority voted against it. California, supposedly a liberal state, didn't support gay rights on the ballot. Our system ensures that people have recourse when they feel violated. Minorities have options to prevent them from being oppressed when a majority attempts to go against the constitution. Politicians often go against the constitution and, unfortunately, idiots like you don't understand the system and support it because you agree with them.

We are allowed to stand up for our rights, even when it's unpopular with most people. It's called liberty. It means you have inalienable rights. Period. The majority wins only if what they want is constitutional. This prevents people from having their rights stripped if the majority is against them. That is what a constitutional Republic is all about, nimrod.

A true democracy, where the majority have the final say, would mean minorities never have rights. No one would. A person's freedoms would solely depend on the whim of the majority, which is why our founders wisely built this country to prevent that.
