Obama and others love to point to Australia to prove that gun control works to reduce deaths. But the White House also known as "HOME OF THE WHOPPER" leaves out an important part of the statistics.

AUSTRALIANS are shooting each other less and stabbing each other more.

The latest homicide in Australia report by the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) shows 13 per cent of people murdered in 2008/09 and 2009/10 were killed by firearms, down from 25 per cent in the late 1980s.

But knife murders have risen from 30 to 41 per cent over the last decade.

Overall murders are at a low and if te total number of murders decreases largely due to a decrease in gun murders the percentage of knife murders will be larger

So if laws don't work then the Ten Commandments were worthless because laws don't work. And any New Testament 'laws' are also worthless because laws don't work.

The difference is two percent. Look at the numbers again. Gun deaths lowered vs knife deaths higher. It's only a 2 percent spread.

The real issue is that it seems the ban had no real impact on the homicide rate, which was decreasing anyway.

And if the total number of murders had remained the same you'd have a point.

My point has always been a simple one.

If someone is a whack job who is determined to murder.......where there is a will there is a way. Just recently we had a supposedly loving husband and father hire a hit man to kill his wife with a hammer for the insurance money and a loving father and husband who slit his wife's and children's throats before offing himself.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather take a bullet than to be hammered or stabbed to death.

good point-----one of my brothers is a psychiatrist-----he commented---"if someone wants to kill himself or someone else----no amount of watching or guarding or medicating is going to stop him----HE WILL FIND A WAY" it's stuff he knows thru
his experience with the issue

I know they have a kangaroo cull down there. And classically my friends who have located to Aussie land tells me roos taste like chicken. And even though we hunt I can't handle eating anything that has a name. Ok. I lie. Bambi and Thumper I enjoy.

But Skippy? I couldn't do it. Nor Lassie.

Not at all. Check Marty's post. The homicide rate has gone down. YES. But and it's a big but it has nothing to do with their gun regulations.

Context and nuance, td, please.

A knife as a weapon of mass destruction, or even four of them for two people, probably won't kill 14 and injure 31 in an incident.

Agreed...

The simple thing is guns are a more efficient killing machine. They involve less training to be able to kill someone and can be still operated while be heavily mentally impaired (by Drug or Alcohol).

So if someone wants to kill someone (pre mediately) then gun or no gun they have a chance, gun just brings the skill level down. But under an impulse (where most murders happen), guns increase the odds of serious injury or death

The law has to be effective, gun control laws obviously are not.

You cannot be this stupid.
Think of the potential number of fatal injuries by knife compared compared to guns.
Unfortunately this "uber stupidity" is an example of too many who advoccate no limit to gun ownership.
It makes me nervous that someone this stupid owns a gun.

The gun homicide rate is "Down 25% in the late 1980's" is what you said above. And now you're telling me that the rate has gone down but it's not because of gun regulations.

We should try having 0.00 guns available here for 35 years and see where our homicide rate is after that.

PS: I can outrun someone with a knife. You won't outrun a bullet.
