Scott cuts funding for rape crisis centers during Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Rape crisis centers are not good use of taxpayer money?

Nobody is stopping you from making a donation. But when the government chooses to spend the taxpayers' money it has to be justified and respond to a government role. Apparently the State of Florida already fulfills its role in this respect.

It is justifiedc and met the criteria dumbass, the PEOPLE are the taxpayers not some separate entity. I am a taxpayer and have no problem with my money paying for rape crisis centers for rape victims, how the fack is that a waste of money?

Apparently you can't argue without resorting to shouting insults. That's a bit sad and really shows you as intellectually very weak.

This is only confirmed by the fact that you seem to fail to grasp that the government does not have unlimited means. It has to spend its money wisely. And when a particular task of the government is already funded and there is no suitable justification given for providing "additional" funding then it is right not to do so.

Are women being raped so much that there are special "rape crisis centers" now?

What happened to emergency rooms?

You can't argue without distorting facts, the money was already approved by the Florida legislature and Rick Scott VETOED the shat. They gave justification just because you keep failing to read it is not my damn problem.

It's his job to veto special appropriations that are tacked onto spending bills just to spread some gravy and make some political point.

The state should fulfill its legitimate tasks, nothing more and nothing less. Spreading taxpayer money around to worthy causes is not the government's function.

You are the one who can't read and see what this whole discussion is about. Pretty sad.

It wasn't the State of Florida. It was governor Rick Scott. He, alone, vetoed the legislation.

The State approved of the funding.

As they often do without blinking an eye.
I wish to hell all governors and politicians would request line by line explanations for taxpayer money. Seems like a reasonable thing to me.
It is irresponsible for an elected official(s) to blindly sign off request for funds. Who does that in the real world??
Simply saying we need more money because we aren't getting enough is not acceptable.
What are their expenses? How much are the directors/officers getting paid? What specifically do victims receive? Maybe the problem isn't enough money - maybe they are wasting money.
It is not unheard of for non-profit directors/officers to make 6 figure salaries for doing very little work.

His reasons was that the money was waste, it is not waste to spend money on rape crisis centers.

His reason was that it was waste because it duplicated efforts already funded by the state. Learn to read for heaven's sake.

It was not waste and it was submitted that there are more rape victims so they need more money dumbass.

Sorry, but you're a bit too stupid to waste my time on. Rant on.

Eyeah..

Democrats couldn't help but note the irony that Scott's "jobs budget" eliminates roughly 4,500 state-worker jobs and could therefore make matters worse in a state with record unemployment. About 2,000 of the jobs are filled. Already, the Department of Children and Families has announced 500 layoffs.

"If he means the 'jobs budget' is killing jobs, then it's an accurate title," said Democratic House leader Ron Saunders of Key West.

The job cuts are part of a one-two punch felt by state workers. They'll now be required to kick in an additional 3 percent of their salaries to fund their retirements. Nearly every government service was cut in the budget: health care for the poor, schools, the environment and courts.

The budget, passed May 7 by the Legislature, now weighs in at roughly $69.1 billion after the $615 million in vetoes. It's about $1.3 billion smaller than the current budget, which expires June 30, at the end of the fiscal year.

Lawmakers actually cut more in anticipated spending — about $3.7 billion — than meets the eye because Medicaid rolls boomed in the down economy, putting more pressure on them to trim spending. Also, property taxes that help fund education decreased when property values plummeted. At the same time, courts were handling more foreclosure cases and prison costs continued to increase.

Despite all the pressures to cut and save, legislators still set aside about $300 million for tax cuts and business incentives. It was a far cry from the $2.4 billion in tax-and-fee cuts that Scott called for, but legislators made sure to give some tax relief to ensure he didn't veto the budget.

<snip

Some projects, such as a $5 million regatta center in Sarasota, were tough to justify in a year when state workers and teachers face layoffs. Scott took issue with a $500,000 appropriation for an Ocala horse farm and a $250,000 plan to reuse rainwater at prisons.

Same old shit. Tax cuts and pork for the rich.

Good job boys.

How do you know they don't waste money?
Are you privy to their trial balances? Do you sign off of their expenses? Do you know what salaries are paid to employees?
No you don't.
There was a reason this was denied. No governor with a sound mind is going to veto a popular hot item like this without a reason..unless he just enjoys losing votes.
They asked for $1.5 million more and would only say to him - here is our case load - see we need more. That is not acceptable. It is well within his responsibility AND duty to his state to require financial statements whenever he sees fit. And they didn't provide it.
Perhaps now they will so their patients don't suffer. It looks like they have been running deficit spending for quite some time - what steps have they taken to address that problem except for asking for more money?

Absolutely. (your examples of special interest pork)
And this is not just Florida...this is all 50 states and especially the Federal Government. As I said early in this thread - this isn't a Republican/Democrat issue. Politicians on both sides do this every single day. If everyone would stop just looking at what the other side spends and concentrated on what THEIR party does - maybe we could get somewhere.
You think a politician cares more about what his constituents think - or those who will never vote for them? THIS IS WHY - this will never end. Because everyone blames the other side and never holds accountable of WHO THEY ACTUALLY VOTE FOR.

Using logic against an irrational ranter is just not gonna work, Iam. Kudos for trying but you are banging your head against a brick wall. Apparently, the concept of balancing a budget is lost on on the left.

They set aside 300 million in taxcuts for th rich and took away 1.5 million for rape crisis centers, excellent job at budget balancing, what a performance.

To be fair the headline should read "vetoed 1.5 million in INCREASED FUNDING". Apparently the tricksters in the democrat party who set up the timing of this veto couldn't come up with a reason for the 1.5 million dollar increase and they probably didn't care.

They didn't take anything away dull one.
But this goes well to show how your mind works - only a flaming liberal thinks non profits asking for money automatically means possession of it.

Why are the tax payers paying for this to begin with? Shouldnt financial support come from individuals who care about these things? Charity is better than Robbery.

how stupid is this?

Cripes I hope somenone is going to nail these race baiters to the walll and fucking nail them. disgusting what they have been allowed to do over all these years.
