Government to Sell GM Stock at a Big Loss

Why would we sell at a loss? We can just hold the stock until the price increases.

The chance of GM Stock reaching a break even price of $70 a share could take up to ten years(and that is conservative estimate) . The current price is $27.29 a share. You can blame Tim Geithner for taking shares of GM instead of making them pay us back in cash. Any person with half a brain new this was not the smartest thing to do.

I remember when Reagan and Chrysler were used as an example of how this bailout was going to be wildly successful and that it was just some loans. Crony capitalism is cool, huh?

the cost of bailing out the auto industry will end up being in the neighborhood of 1 to 2 months in Iraq. From Iraz, we made the military industrial complex more wealthy, and made a lot of holes in the ground. And spent over a trillion dollars. for the auto industry, we saved 1.5M Jobs, very likely stopped the recession from moving into a depression, increased gov revenues, and kept jobs in this country for years to come. And it cost something like $12B. See the difference?? the auto bailout looks like a very, very good deal.

that is always funny. Watching a really stupid person calling others stupid.

Is that why you do it so much?
Not really. Just return heat with heat. Cons are the attackers. Attack, attack, attack, just like the dogma they watch on tv and listen to on the radio. Just like you.

if you have something against the con dogma of Aristotle Jefferson Friedman and Reagan why not say what it is or admit as a liberal you lack the IQ to do so??

"With the deal and other sources -- including funds from GM's IPO and GM loan repayments -- the U.S. has recouped about $28.6 billion of $49.5 billion bailout, according to the Treasury." ANALYSTS LIKE THE STOCK: Government to shed GM stake, taxpayer loss likely

The other 20.9 billion will be recouped in the next 12 to 15 months.

The ( US Government )deal negotiated with GM for the 200 million shares will cut the U.S. stake to 19% but raise the price needed to break even on the remaining 300 million government shares to nearly $70.But the likely loss of billions of dollars by the time all government stock is sold off – at the $27.50 share price, the ultimate loss would amount to around $12.75 billion – will continue to fuel debate.
GM buys back stock; taxpayers may lose billions - Business on NBCNews.com

The House of Representatives should hold hearings with The Secretary of the Treasury ( Tim Geithner ) to explain this $12.75 Billion Government Loss. This loss will increase our National Debt and will be payed for by the Citizens of this nation.

It's another form of government hand outs to corporations/unions. And the tax pays foot the bill.

Research the story, because their pension requires the fat cats get paid regardless, then everyone else. The government is holding the big pensions hostage to payment of the labor pensions first. Good deal. Very little chance of bank bankruptcy.

The whole story and the plus or minus is not known yet.

LOLz

GM will be back in bankruptcy

They owe more to their pension that they've made in total profits since the day they opened

Jake, you should borrow from the Mafia to invest in GM

What Republican Party do you belong to again? What is the local area?

I belong to the responsible portion of the GOP. To which portion do you belong, Frank?

So, at this point we are not sure of the actual cost of the auto bailout. Looks to be not more than $13B. The CBO will have another estimate out shortly, based on the latest information. In the interim, why are cons beating this horse???
The question is, if you had the option of saving over a million jobs and the us auto industry, and the cost of doing so would be under $13B, would you do so? The american public, based on all polls, would favor doing so by a wide margin. The last political election showed the voting public agreed. So, assuming you like living in a democracy, looks like we have made the correct decision.

Put another way, if you had a choice of blowing holes in the sand in Iraq, would you rather do that for two months, or save the entire US auto industry and over a million jobs and get back some change??

Neither..

Your portion is working with Obama and the Dems, in addition you've developed quite the goose step lately, so I'm certain you're a Dem and active in that party

So, for under $13B you would rather the us auto industry go under, along with well over a million jobs? And, per the economists at the time, provide the impetus for driving the economy into a depression? And cost the american public trillions?? I have that correct, right??

Our portion is working with the American people, while you are working against the good women and men of America.

What you are certain of is that you should point that thing to pee but often forget.
