Who will be to blame? The Democrats or the Republicans?

The Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) was passed in the House and the Senate.

The Republicans want to repeal the program, but don't have enough votes in the Senate to do it.

So they are threatening to shut down the government if Democrats in the Senate refuse to defund ObamaCare.

The right way to kill an unwanted program, is to gather the required votes to do it.

NOT to threaten to shut down the government when you don't have enough votes.

Seems to me the House Republicans have proposed a budget that will allow everything else but Obamacare continue. The Senate leadership in the person of Harry Reid and the Prez have both declared they will shut down government if they don't get their way.
Bottom line is, we don't have enough money to fund all the goodies we are now paying for. Obamacare is one HUGE boondoggle we cannot afford unless we take away from some other program(s). No one, not Democrat, nor Republican, wants to do the really difficult job of deciding where to trim the budget.

The House wants to kill ObamaCare.

The Senate wants to keep it.

So how do we compromise?

How about we compromise by putting off the individual mandate by another year?

Libs really don't get it...Republicans or Democrats...it's like skinning cats. Some are striped, some spotted. Take the skin off and they are all the same. It's really a one-party system dressed up to look like we have some kind of choice. "Follow the money" and you will notice that they all have similar funding. Go figure....It's all OK, as long as they can maintain the us-against-them mentality of the common "soldier".

Correct.

House republicans have the responsibility to ensure a functioning Federal government, in compliance with the wishes of the American people.

They’re at liberty to address the ACA after they’ve fulfilled that responsibility.

Personally, I don't think this is a sound strategy.

But the truth is, we can't afford Obamacare.

As it stands now, we can't afford Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

Had the economy come roaring back, we might not be having this confrontation.

We could have convinced ourselves that we could kick this can down the road.

But it didn't...so we have to face the reality that Obamacare is poorly conceived legislation that we cannot afford.

Sometimes you have to do what you can when you can with what you've got.

If Obamacare is implemented, if spending isn't curtailed...who controls the Senate and who controls the house will be a moot point...in four or five election cycles, we are Greece.

Just something to think about. It is a fact that total spending on healthcare has come to a screeching halt over the past three years. Increases in spending on healthcare have been at 4% for the past two years and are on pace to only increase 1% this year. Now understand that prior to the ACA being passed we went through more than a decade where every single year, healthcare spending increased by at least double that and many times triple that amount. There were a number of years where we increased spending on healthcare by as much as we have increased it in total over the last three years.

Now let's do some math. This year, total spending on healthcare is costing the US $2.7 trilion, approximately. If increases in spending remain around 3% per year, we are looking at an increase of about $80 billion. If we go back to the time before the ACA being passed and have increases in spending of 10% to 12%, then we are looking at increases of $270 billion to $324 billion. Potentially the difference could be almost $250 billion. Somebody is going to have to pay that. Last of all, this has already been put through the wringer, and what we know is that if the ACA is defunded, increases in healthcare spending will skyrocket to much more than the numbers I've already put out.

For those of you who are adamant about repealing the ACA, if it is done, it's going to cost all of us an awful lot.

Key provisions are not in place with Obamacare.
Federal Exchanges are not ready in States who chose this option.
The Federal Hubs are not communicating with all the providers due to tech problems and software.
The Business Mandates are pushed back a year.

How the hell can you enforce the rest of it, with key elements not in place..........................

Finally, it is absolutely a economic Train Wreck. If you can't see that writing on the wall then you aren't looking.

At a minimum, the full implementation needs to be pushed back a year, because portions are not ready to implement. It would be BS to impose Mandates on individuals when they can't even call an exchange yet.

Years ago when the liberal media was a lot more powerful than it is today it was able to blame the Clinton government shutdown on the then speaker of the house, Newt Gingrich. The media didn't let up and went on to cute stuff like "the (Ging)grinch that stole Christmas. Of course it wasn't Gingrich and nobody stole Christmas. They might try the same lie today and the same bigoted left wing following will believe it.

Almost right. The House has a responsibility to pass a budget which authorizes spending in compliance with the wishes of the American people. If the people do not wish to fund Obamacare, then it should not be funded, just as the Contras were defunded when Reagan was President.

The proposition that the GOP House is "shutting down the government" is ludicrous on its face: The Senate's responsibility, which it has ignored since Obama was elected, is to pass its own budget bill and THEN compromise with the House on a final budget bill to be sent to the President.

The reason the Democrats are screaming so loudly about this bogus "shutdown" is that they don't want to vote to continue Obamacare and then have to face the voters in 2014.

Not one Republican has been quoted as saying "shut the government down". The Congressional Democrats and the President are the only ones talking about a government shutdown.

I noticed your poll choices left the President out of the mix. There was a poll released today that shows Republicans would be blamed by 48% and the Democrats/President would be blamed by 49% of the people. It is pretty much a wash!

The troubling part of this whole budget matter is that the President and Harry Reid have said they will not negotiate the budget. They are pretty much saying it is to be our way, or the highway. They have become tone deaf as to the will of the people which is to do away with Obamacare without closing down the government. The Republicans have offered a one year delay in implementing Obamacare. What is so horrible about that? Even Democrats have called this law a "train wreck"! When it was passed this law was anything but perfect. Let's delay the start until next year, which the President has already done by fiat with several "special" groups. So, why not all Americans? It is the same old "my way or the highway" mentality the Dems and the Pres. have tried to govern over the past five years.

An even bigger reason to delay the start of Obamacare is that there are still several lawsuits out there that have not yet been decided. If any of those lawsuits go against Obamacare money will have been wasted trying to get the program started. One lawsuit to pay attention to that might be before the Supreme Court this term is Liberty vs. Lew. If Liberty wins this lawsuit then Obamacare will pretty much have been gutted with no reason to to go forward with it.

Interesting point. I think Roberts will vote against Obamacare the next time around.
