I can tell you the two sides worked many hours to avoid the shutdown. The governor tried to get a mediator involved but the GOP shot that idea down.
Both sides have legitimate points but only the governor has given in to some of the demands from the GOP. The GOP has not budged at all.
And until all possible cuts have been made, they shouldn't. I'm glad one of the two sides finally decided that cutting wasteful spending is more better than raising taxes, and is sticking to their guns on it.
America has been in a rut with wasteful spending for a while now. It's going to take experiencing some harsh realities to finally break this bad habit.
Like most economists, I believe that if someone is serious about eliminating government's debt, they do both, cut spending and raise revenue.
I wholeheartedly agree. However, our elected officials have proven to be utterly irresponsible when it comes to spending and budgets. So until they can gain back my trust on spending I will not support giving them more money.
