Haridopolos is a smart man. He's President of the Florida Senate. He often clashed with governor Scott over legal issues, such as whether or not Scott could sell state property without legislative approval. He's a pretty conservative guy, but with the Tea Party folks rampant in the state Republican party, he has to walk a fine line. Scott's approval ratings make Obama's look stratospheric, and with seniors dead set against Ryan's plan, anyone coming out strongly in favor of it - as the Tea Party wants - risks getting crushed in the next election.

The Florida Republican party shot itself the foot in the last Senatorial election. The diehards nominated Katherine Harris and they lost a very winnable seat. Looks like they could do it again.
