About 900,000 veterans and 5,000 active duty troops face cuts in their food stamp benefits beginning Thursday as $5 billion is automatically trimmed from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program for low-income families.
The SNAP program received a boost under the 2009 Recovery Act, or stimulus bill (thank Obama) aimed at lifting the nation out of recession, but that temporary increase will expire Thursday as Congress continues to debate a new farm bill which would separate farm subsidies from food stamp benefits.

Senators from Iowa split on Veterans Jobs Corps Act - News and Weather For The Quad Cities -
Iowa's two senators were split this week on the Veterans Jobs Corps Act. Senator Tom Harkin (D) voted for it; Senator Chuck Grassley (R) voted against it. Senator Dick Durbin (D) of Illinois voted in support of the Act, while Illinois' Republican Senator, Mark Kirk, did not vote.
WASHINGTON (AP) Senate Republicans blocked legislation Wednesday that would have established a $1 billion jobs program putting veterans back to work tending to the country's federal lands and bolstering local police and fire departments.

How do USMB Republicans keep insisting it is "they" who support the veterans? The question is how much longer they can fool these brave men and women.
