Teena Marie died at her home in California last night at the age of 54. She was known as the Ivory Queen of Soul.

Although she certainly was not the first white singer to sing black music, none have ever been as endeared and loved as she. Her voice, her music, her life, were all as black as I am.

She was indeed a queen.

There will be many tears shed for Lady T .. including mine.

She will be missed.

Madeline, have you heard of Chaka Khan...Mary J. Blige, Faith?

Anyway, RIP Teena.

I thought to myself when I heard this news, I wonder if she imagined she's be dead a few years ago when she was responding to the news of Rick James' death.

Of course, Marc. I feel sorta out of it if this chick was a Motown star...I wudda said I knew them all, but honest, never heard of her.

54 is young to die of natural causes, though....I say, as I am 57, LOL.

Never heard of her before, BlackasCoal. A youtube video would be nice.

No problem sister.

My wife and I were in Old Town Pasadena one day a few years back when I saw Teena Marie and her daughter at an ATM. I knew it was her because amazingly, my wife and I had seen her on one of those "Where Are They Now?" cable shows the night before!

An article I read said that she had a gran mal seizure the week before. I wonder did that play into her untimely death?

Teena Marie reminds me of my friend Gloria, who loved Soul Train and learned to dance watching it. Man, she was good too . . .. for a white chick. lol
