That's a Causus Belli if Russia wants to make it one. We are supplying them arms being used to kill Russian Soldiers. We should be doing it, but again it's still a reason for them to be a bit angry at us.

As I stated in my post, it would require Russia seeing it's choice between winning in Ukraine or the current government collapsing.

It may not be a smart play, but it would be a desperate one, much like the Japanese choice to attack Pearl Harbor.

Actually, no. Ukraine invaded Russian territory (from Russian point of view), and Russia didn't used nukes.

To use them to invade a NATO country would lead to retaliation that would destroy them

It depends on how exactly they use them. In the case of the direct and well coordinated Russian attack against unprepared (wishful-thinking and ignorant) US nuclear force, American retaliation (if there will be any) will definitely kill less then 10 million Russians. Pretty likely, that it will kill less than 1 million of Russians, which is pretty acceptable level of losses for them, and, it's definitely better then, say, allow Poland, Baltic States and Finland deploy significant NATO forces (which will be prepared to attack Russian in, say, 2026).

ps Yes. Seems to me there should be more explicit emphasis that US/EU support for Ukraine is a national security issue, not a “foreign aid” issue.
