A person may "identify" as the person wishes. Expecting others to accept that may be a lot to ask. Demanding it is the definition of a mental problem."All the sudden"?
NO, there isn't.
There are only two.
If a person was born with a penis.............A male.
If a person was born with a vagina..........A female.
Just because you "identify" yourself as different from the way you were born, doesn't make it so.
I can "identify" myself as a millionaire, it doesn't make it so.

Thinking you're a doctor or a biologist when you're not is probably a sign of mental illness.It's what happens when people pretend mental illness doesn't exist, and choose to make believe that whatever a persons fantasies are, it must be real.
