gay marraige debate/vote

I was listening to the AM radio..I think it was Medved's show? and a guy he had on said that in almost every state it has been brought to a vote, in 95% of the cases it has been REJECTED by the people. The only way they could push it through was by legal fiat through the court system (judges). I think it was 31 of 32 states rejected same sex marriage.
