Is this a surprise to anyone? Seriously. Place all your eggs in one basket & expect a different outcome? Come on.

Question:" Should the U.S. base it's energy policy primarily on a commodity that is controlled by the whim of a 87 yr old monarch in Saudi?

It's been tried, but the Libtards always seem to have a problem with them:

Nuclear - Too dangerous
Hydroelectric - Ruins the environment
Wind - Looks ugly
Solar - Upsets the desert

Any other bright ideas?

I know AT LEAST one person, aside from Exxon/Mobil, Chevron, & Conoco who's happy w/ the status quo- King Abdullah :)

The Obama Moratorium: No offshore drilling while he’s in office

The Obama administration’s six-month delay in approving new offshore drilling leases in federal waters will become a new three-year ban, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar quietly told reporters last Friday. Which means that no new oil and gas leases will be approved during President Obama’s term even though two –thirds of the American public supports such activity, according to a December 2009 Rasmussen poll.

Sixty percent also believe that gas and oil prices will drop if the government allows offshore drilling, opening up an estimate 14 billion barrels of oil and 55 trillion cubic feet of natural gas

On July 14, 2008 President George W. Bush lifted an executive ban on Outer Continental Shelf leasing. On October 1, 2008, in a bipartisan agreement, Congress lifted another longstanding ban on new oil and gas leasing in the OCS.

Drilling was supposed to begin this July. But Salazar said he intends to discard the 2010-2015 lease plan developed by the Bush administration in favor of a new plan that won’t even go into effect until 2012.

“Secretary Salazar has finally confirmed what had long been feared – that the Obama Administration has no intention of opening up new areas for offshore drilling during his four-years in office,” said Rep. Doc Hastings, the ranking Republican on the House Natural Resources Committee.

So for the next three years and probably more, trillions of dollars in domestic energy assets will remain untouched while billions of dollars more are spent on foreign oil.

It's not the libtards, it's the social demotards!

What Ever!

"Curse the Libotards!"

( Just remember they're not the same as Liberals and Libertarians in the fall of 2012 )

I hear 'ya. My political beliefs are that of a Liberal according to just about every definition on the planet including the dictionary definition, EXCEPT in the United States. Unfortunately, the socialist/marxist/statist wackos in the US have co-opted the word liberal for their own nefarious purposes and I can't call myself a Liberal anymore. Of course people have caught on to their little game so now they call themselves Progressives. Same difference.

Seriously, what alternatives have we got that can do much?

The local utilties that had a nuke plant took it down because they had to defend keeping it every single election cycle from 1976 until they gave in in 1994. We can't do nuke. we are taking down the dams. Coal is incredibly filthy (clean coal? Did someone hit the bong too hard?) Solar and Wind are still a joke. i can't see tidal launching any time soon.

So what is left?

Youre a bit misinformed when it comes to energy policy and reality. How do any of those power the combustion engine in 99% of cars and trucks out there? Answer is they dont. All what you said are viable alternatives to create electricity but the USA has an abundance of coal and natural gas (your alternatives are just cleaner but more costly but I agree they should be explored and developed).

This is a point I have to keep repeating but nuclear, hydroelectric, wind and solar power do NOTHING to alleviate our demand for oil.

Then BY GOD we take it back!

All of them. And keep using petroleum in the meantime. Drill baby drill, but put it straight to the boards of directors issued the permits that responsibility for fucking up the environment is that of the permit holder, including if needed, personal responsibility of board members for negligence, or cover-up.

If you deduct the amount of $ it takes to keep the oil flowing:

1) cozying up to monarchs &/or dictators (selling-out one's principles)

2) wars & war dead
3) graft
4) having the Navy police the Gulf ($$$$$)
5) etc...

Alternative energies don't sound so bad. The reason they're so expensive is that dirty & cheap oil is crowding them out. There's also too much profit in it for people like King Abdullah, Exxon/Mobil, Chevron, Conoco. Every time I see an Arabic 16 yr old driving @ in a Ferrari I say "Thanks conservatives!!!" :clap2:
