Future of our Military

we need more discipline in our military
we have too many dumbass in uniform...
we should imitate Chinese and Russians: they have harsh discipline in their armies

I want's smaller unit and only National Guard and Marine Corps and then Coast Guard and Marines warriors and Naval Power. The Army and maybe to Air Force gone.

Navy - 150.000
Army - 420.000
Coast Guard - 40.000
Marin Corps - 172.000
Air Force - 250.000
National Guard - 335.000

Sum: 1.367.000

This I wondering in futures.

130.000 sailors and 20.000 of Marines in Naval Power.

I was under the impression the OP wanted to discuss, "us, we" not "they, them". We being the USofA, they being anyone but the USofA. Correct me if I am wrong, please! I would hope "We" will not be fighting anywhere, allowing "They and Them" to do it.

Europe and the problems they face are an example. The time is long past for greater Europe to take a stand and take out the problem they, in truth, created. As long as Europe is allowed to pass the buck and continue playing second fiddle, there will be no peace in the mid eastern countries. They are next door neighbors after all. Obama has not been great success but I give him credit for keeping us out that mess as much as possible. I supported what GWB did as New York was fragged and a statement had to be followed up with action. We succeeded in what we set out to do. Then we allowed Washington to overload it's Alpha Sierra Sierra. After we entered the correct war, Afganistan, according to Obama, things went to hell. When he had his nose bloodied, Obama pulled out and took his marbles home. That, in my opinion is all he deserves credit for. My charge is that, Europe should have had the role of bringing that cluster call to some sort of conclusion. Right, wrong or indifferent, Europe has owned that part of the world since 1918. They have done a piss poor job of containing the situation.

Popular sentiment but the last time Europe took the lead it ended very badly...

Lots of really smart folks have studied the question of the future of the military...they have a gamut of theories..to me though..it always boils down to will...can one wield the will and right force to impose ones will...

Do you have a point to make? Are you stating Europe has no balls? Are you stating Europe is not strong enough? Are you stating Europe is helpless? Exactly, what are you stating? I mentioned no generalities, please do me a favor and do the same. No will? Then why in hell is the US involved? To protect the homeland? We have done that and are doing it, albeit the task is getting more difficult with our logger headed politics. Again, if you have a point, make it!

Two posts that weren't connected. The second was not directed to the first nor were you quoted in the second.

The point on Europe was a reference to WWII, we let the Europeans lead the world into it due to our isolationist bent at the time, letting them take the lead, one could say. I have no doubt that Europe's interest in the Middle East are self serving, you let them drive policy it will serve their interest not the US and visa versa. I don't believe it's as simple as letting the Europeans fix "their mess", that's a pretty general position if there was one.

The Carter Administration first implemented the "Arc of Crisis" Strategy to oppose the Soviets, one might as well place the blame on them as anyone for the current state of affairs in the Region .

My second post was unconnected to the first post, was concerning the future use of our military. I thought it to be apolitical, It had nothing to do with the your post or the Europeans, which I have no interest in saving or beating up on.

Your contention that we are defending the homeland, is debatable at best, whether one is talking about preemptive war or containment, strategy's that are useless without the will to sustain them through changes in political leadership.

I will maybe 220,000 in the Army or 200,000 in Army eastern US and 300,000 in Navy.

1,300,000 I maybe will to have in Armed Forces of USofA. Only 200,000 soldiers in eastern then will be 20,000 in Korea to help S.Korea against N.Korea in ground war.

So long as there's big money to be made from war, we'll be at war. And where or with whom doesn't matter.

As someone posted, it is impossible to keep politics out of a discussion like this. Who said something like "war is just an extension of diplomacy?"

What I think the American people want is for us to have a strong, well-trained, and organized military with equipment equal to the task.

I also think a lot of Americans want us to get the hell out of places we have no business being. Many are - as the leftists and progs would call them - isolationists and want us to stop our foreign aid and military programs.

Bring 'em home and defend our own borders first!

I honestly think this might be the trend if Trump is elected president. Things like rescinding the Posse Comitatus Act and allowing our military to actively patrol the border. Withdrawing forces from overseas while maintaining foreign staging/supply areas.

Having personally been involved in foreign military sales and training, I think we could free up billions for things desperately needed here at home!

Hello longknife, it has been a while since we corresponded. I, for one, feel the United States needs to concentrate on "Fortress America" for a bit. There is nothing more pressing at this time than restoring America to America. Once again we have proven we can produce our own oil, we have more oil than imagined a few short years ago. We have the ability for feed ourselves and also the ability to defend ourselves. Do we want to do that indefinately, NO. However there is much restoration here to be done. Our schooling, attitudes, infrastructure and government are in chaos simply as we have been residing overseas since 1945. In that time the Europeans have done little to protect themselves. As a result they and the rest of the world have come to think of us as their big brother who takes the lumps for them. Time for some hanger on's to have a bloody nose and a few chipped teeth while we repair our's. I am all for a bit of isolationism, not socialism. As for Russia and China, should either one or both fart, they will rip the bag they are living in, to shreds. China, the stronger of the two, is facing so much internal friction coupled with the fact that 80% of the population is begging and non productive, insures their collapse to the past 40 years. Good talking to you. Have a nice day. :bye1:

Thinking no Army. Only Marines and National Guard and Marin Corps then all reserve force in Alaska maybe to outland's war starts with Air Force moving closer territorium with troops from Alaska telling youre true. Or will be 140,000 Army troops in Alaska. 100,000 sum left when others drivers outland's.
