For years, Netanyahu propped up Hamas. Now it’s blown up in our faces
The premier’s policy of treating the terror group as a partner, at the expense of Abbas and Palestinian statehood, has resulted in wounds that will take Israel years to heal from

For years, the various governments led by Benjamin Netanyahu took an approach that divided power between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank — bringing Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to his knees while making moves that propped up the Hamas terror group.

The idea was to prevent Abbas — or anyone else in the Palestinian Authority’s West Bank government — from advancing toward the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Most of the time, Israeli policy was to treat the Palestinian Authority as a burden and Hamas as an asset. Far-right MK Bezalel Smotrich, now the finance minister in the hardline government and leader of the Religious Zionism party, said so himself in 2015.

According to various reports, Netanyahu made a similar point at a Likud faction meeting in early 2019, when he was quoted as saying that those who oppose a Palestinian state should support the transfer of funds to Gaza, because maintaining the separation between the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and Hamas in Gaza would prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Bolstered by this policy, Hamas grew stronger and stronger until Saturday, Israel’s “Pearl Harbor,” the bloodiest day in its history — when terrorists crossed the border, slaughtered hundreds of Israelis and kidnapped an unknown number under the cover of thousands of rockets fired at towns throughout the country’s south and center.

This is a article from a JERUSALEM news organization. Those who blame Biden for this apparently are not very knowledgeable people. And for those who talk about Biden giving money to Iran caused this:

Thus, amid this bid to impair Abbas, Hamas was upgraded from a mere terror group to an organization with which Israel held indirect negotiations via Egypt, and one that was allowed to receive infusions of cash from abroad.

Hamas was also included in discussions about increasing the number of work permits Israel granted to Gazan laborers, which kept money flowing into Gaza, meaning food for families and the ability to purchase basic products.

Additionally, since 2014, Netanyahu-led governments have practically turned a blind eye to the incendiary balloons and rocket fire from Gaza.

Meanwhile, Israel has allowed suitcases holding millions in Qatari cash to enter Gaza through its crossings since 2018, in order to maintain its fragile ceasefire with the Hamas rulers of the Strip.

No one believes your weird jew hating propaganda horseshit.

No one believes your weird jew hating propaganda horseshit.
You are an ignorant “Jew hater” yourself. You don’t seem to recognize that this OP mostly simply reprints sections of a widely read article printed in Jerusalem by one of the biggest Zionist papers in Israel. Yet you call it “weird Jew-hating propaganda horseshit”, Frankly it is you who have a problem with Jewish opinion, Jewish journalism, and you whose brain is evidently filled with “weird horseshit propaganda.”

Does anyone else here believe the Times of Israel is hateful anti-Jewish propaganda?

P.S. About 10 days ago I initiated a separate OP that covers in more detail some of the same well known history of Netanyahu’s past preference — up to October 6th! — for Hamas vs. PLO rule in Gaza.

My OP reprinted sections of an article published by Meron Rapoport, an award-winning investigative journalist with over 30 years of experience in the Israeli media, including tenure as the head of the news department at Ha'aretz and editor at the then-largest paper in the country, Yedioth Ahronoth.

Thank you. These guys are uninformed. Netanyahu has been a problem for years. If not for his policy of basically making Hamas a partner, this probably would not have happened.

The accusation is that you are anti-Jewish, not the Times of Isrrael. You are citing a poorly thought-out piece by the political opposition trying to exploit the Oct 7 atrocity to gain a few political points on Netanyahu. The article argues that if Netanyahu hadn't allowed Qatar to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza, the PA and Hamas would have gotten over all their differences and the mythical two state solution would have been achieved, which is way beyond stupid.

PLO was pushing for a 2 state solution for the Israeli / Palestine problem. Which Netanyahu was totally against.
So then Netanyahu secretly funded and created Hamas which was also against a 2 state solution.
This gambit succeeded in politically splitting apart the Palestinian people and destroyed their hope for a 2 state solution.
But now Netanyahu's brilliant plan of creating Hamas to deep-six the PLO and its 2 state solution has become his worst nightmare.

The article by Meron Rapoport, as I clearly indicated, in my opinion has a few problems, mostly just that it is too optimistic that the lessons of the Oct. 6 Hamas terror attack and its extraordinary “success” in taking the unprepared Netanyahu government by surprise, will be learned in the future or make the need for a two state solution obvious to more Israelis.

It by no means claims that Hamas and the PLO would have become bosom buddies without the allowed financial assistance from Qatar. The differences between the two groups existed long before that. It is also hardly now clear what if any plans Netanyahu has for the future of Gaza, and indeed his own political future may not survive this debacle.

Saying that Netanyahu allowed Qatar to send humanitarian aid to Gaza kept the PA and Hamas apart suggests that if he hadn't they would have gotten together has no rational basis in fact or logic. It is an obvious political hit piece and you are obviously now working and anti Israel agenda.

There is nothing poorly thought out about this and more than 1 source in Israel are saying this. Netanyahus policies have been a problem for yeaars which is why JEWS support the BDS movement.

BLM does not support Hamas and the white right wing would because the white right wing, people like you,, are Americas Hamas BOMB, LOOT, MURDER is your specialty.

BLM has nothing to do with this topic.

Wrong again racist. BLM has shown itself on the fifth that it is, just another run of the mill Marxist terrorist supporting antiamerican group. Many BLM factions are openly in support of Hamas. You really need to do homework on your peeps. Of course a lot of this comes from you and they being completely ignorant.
