The word "Islam" does not translate to "peace." This is such an important statement that it bears repeating...flashily (is that even a word?).

"Islam" does not mean "peace."

Islam, literally translated, means "submission." The "peace" Islam speaks of is a peace that can only follow submission to Islam.

The idea that Islam means peace is something that has been invented by Islamophiles the world over in order to try to convince people that the rampant riots, terrorism, and wars of subjugation have no relation to true Islam, and that these people are heretics or something, but the truth is that translating Islam to mean "peace" is one of the most misleading translation errors (intentional or not) since King James translated the Hebrew word ratsach to mean kill rather than murder.

On a side note, another mistranslation widely exists when going from the Quran to the English meaning, and that is the word deen. In many of the same places that translate Islam to mean "peace," the word deen is translated into English as "to convert," as in, "Mohammad converted the unbelievers." The word deen actually means "to subjugate." Kind of puts a new spin on the "Religion of Peace."

In the Islamic world, the closer your blood line (tribe) is to Mohammad, the closer you are to God. This determines your place in society. They don't let any Abdul be an Imam, it's all in the blood line.
