Food Stamps: Just say no to sugary soda

Do you also believe the gvt has the right to ban soda for those that are not on food stamps, but drawing a gvt retirement including health care costs for worker and their spouse?

The difference between someone on food stamps and someone on a govt retirement is that food stamps are unearned assitance from the government...a gift if you will...while a govt pension was completely earned by the beneficiary.

If you can tell me that food stamps are something that someone works for years to acheive, then I'll say "link".

I think it's a great idea. Why shouldn't the government dictate what the stamps can be used for? If you want soda use your own money or get someone else to buy it for you. I don't think it's a bad idea to limit a lot of foods from food stamp purchases. You already see these "WIC approved" labels on various foods in the grocery stores. Perhaps WIC shouldn't approve all the sugar cereals and chips, etc.

Too many people in the US don't have a clue about nutrition. I'm amazed at some of the crap people buy. I hope they take vitamin supplements because otherwise they have a cartful of empty calories.

Not to mention that the person had contributed to his retirement and/or social security throughout his lifetime. But some people will never understand the difference--they just know the money comes from the government so it must be a handout.

Prior to the Reagan years many of our Married lower enlisted were on food stamps. but his 18% across the board pay raise sort of ended most of that.

If your job in the military requires you to have a security clearance of secret or higher I can see a ban against public assistance.

But a Private today makes $1622.10 a month. If they are married you can add $619.50 Housing allowance, and $323.87 a month for food.

Not too many will need food stamps......

I must confess. I think everyone should have access to Cheetos. :D

The thing is IF restricting food stamps included "junk food " of which cheetos would be part of.... They STILL would have access to them. Just not paid for on the government teet.

Are you guys cool with welfare money being spent on Las Vegas vacations? Is there any limit to what you want "given" to folks with NO strings attached?
You mean like spending food stamps in a Las Vegas supermarket during a vacation? I have no problem with that, if it is even possible.

No, more like flat out fraud

Not True. Government Bureaucrat's should pay a special Bureaucrat tax. It's like a stupid tax, or a tax for being an asshole. It's only fair. Assholes that arbitrarily impose burdens on others without the slightest interest in fair play or impartiality deserve to be treated as badly as they treated others. We could call it the F.U. Tax as in Federal Union Tax. ;)

Who's for the F.U. Tax????? Fuck Yeah!!!!!

Food Stamps should lose at least 50% value when used for Metro Cards, Lottery Tickets, Casino's, Viagra or street drugs, soda, or donating to the DNC.

I think scaling back what foodstamps can be used on is a huge step towards revamping the system and paring it down.

but for my tits and ass sentence, I am presenting myself with a Major Award!

Umm Welfare and foodstamps are not the same thing.
Welfare gives you cash, foodstamps does not. Actually a credit card thingy with a pin. Use like a debit. If used at Casino could be easially tracked. If it would even work at a casino.

People who are on foodstamps shouldn't be GOING on vacation. They should be using their extra cash to buy their own food.
