Gender-Fluid Actor Kelly Mantle Makes Oscar History

dec 9 2016 Opening Friday in limited release for an Oscar-qualifying run is “Confessions of a Womanizer,” directed by Miguel Ali. The small indie film is the longest of shots for Academy consideration, but that’s not stopping it from making history.

In submitting eligibility materials to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the film’s producers sought both supporting actor and supporting actress consideration for gender-fluid actor Kelly Mantle. The Academy granted the request, setting a historic precedent.

Gender-fluid and trans characters have been represented by Oscar-nominated actors such as John Lithgow (“The World According to Garp”), Hillary Swank (“Boys Don’t Cry”) and Eddie Redmayne (“The Danish Girl”). There is one instance, meanwhile, of an Oscar nomination for a gender-swapping role: Linda Hunt in fact won the supporting actress prize for playing a male dwarf in 1982’s “The Year of Living Dangerously.”

But Mantle, known for appearing as a contestant on “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” is marking his own milestone. He is the first person to be submitted and eligible for a nomination in both male and female acting categories

It's not perverted, men have always played female roles in theatre. It used to be only males in theatre because it was considered perverted to have women living a stage career. Because of the invariable sluttery.

What's wrong here is that it's incitement, designed to cause problems between the two genders and further use MTF transgenders as political distractions.

This issue makes me think of the Grammy awards and how they have been handed out the past couple of years. They used to have awards for Best Male Performances and Best Female Performances, but for the last few years, its been one award for each musical format and Best Solo Performance is the name of it.

P.S. I would say that such a thing being done at other award shows might make certain people be quiet finally, but if you look at who is nominated for the Best Country Solo Performance Grammy award for example, you will see that just one male is in there for it. How is that fair?
