FEMA Disaster Assistance to Tennessee Tops $28 Million in First Week

So, if the states take the funds, is that Socialism?

The use of any state funds to pay for the public good is a form of socialism, yes. We have a hybrid socialist/capitalistic state - that is the superior form of government.

Hmmmm...whoda thunk that TN was such a Socialist state? I bet the Tea Baggers won't have their convention there NEXT year. That would be hypocritical of them. Sorta like fighting against government run healthcare, all the while taking advantage of MediCare and MedicAid. Oh wait....:eusa_whistle:

And all the while you seem to neglect the itty bitty fact that although they are against certain initiatives, they are forced to pay for it, so why is there an issue of hypocrisy when they take advantage of something they are forced to pay for?

For example. If Joe Blow did not want to pay for health insurance and now the law makes him pay for it, is he a hypocrite for making a claim if he had an injury?

You (thoeretically) may be angry that your electricity rates went up, but are you a hypocrite for paying the bill and using electricity?

Sorry VaYank. Yours is nothing but a post trying to make fun of something that, in fact, has absolutely no humor to it.

Before you attempt to jump me, get your facts straight. EVERY tax payer in the country is already paying for those who do not have insurance. Therein lies the hypocrisy.

Tennesse is still part of the USA.

Ergo it is only right that the rest of the nation come to their aid in their time of need.

Those volunteers would do it for me, here in Maine if we needed their help, I am quite sure of that.

We're in this mess together, folks.

Hating your neighbors because they don't talk like you, or look like you or even THINK like you makes you a tool for the people who are REALLY screwing us ALL over.

Of course the nation as a whole should help Tennessee, that's not in question.

I'm just riling up all those assholes who said that New Orleans shouldn't be rebuilt after the storm.

Both Nashville and New Orleans are important to this nation, not only because of their modern day culture (centered around music in both cases), but because of the history of the places.

Excuse me but the diuscussion of not building NO had to do with the theory that it may be building up something that would likely be destroyed again.

If you have not noticed, the global warming theory talks about a dramatic increase in hurricanes. I dont berlieve it, but that is the word of the majority in government. So is it smart to rebuild a city that is a foot from the gulf, but below sea level?

Using this logic, how smart is it to use Federal funds to rebuild those parts of Nashville that are obviously too close to the river?

No sir. That is not the issue and you diverted. Every person pays their taxes to cover those that need to use the ER. Now they will have an increase in their taxes so everyone can own a policy.

I have my facts straight. You simply decided to use my post and adjust it to fit your agenda.

Really? Please show me what that increase will be and when it will go into effect.

Everything that exists is likely to be destroyed again. You don't think the people who calculate flood probabilities are going to change their numbers for Nashville now? Maybe we shouldn't rebuild Nashville, it clearly can flood severely.

If you have no noticed, almost the entire left coast could break off into the sea at any moment. Maybe people shouldn't build there, either.

Lots of tornados in Kansas. No building should be allowed.

15 million people live below sea level in Holland. The Dutch have been increasing their land mass for 2000 years this way, even as late as 1986. They may not have hurricanes, but they have bad ass storms in the North Sea that have hurricane force winds - they just aren't called "hurricanes" because they don't originate in the tropics and they don't have an eye.

We're not trying to increase land mass, we're just trying to keep what we have.

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced today more than $28 million in disaster assistance has been approved to help with recovery efforts just one week after a federal major disaster declaration was requested for severe storms and flooding that struck Tennessee.

Sounds like socialism in the heart of Tea Bagger country to me....:eusa_whistle:

Betchya weren't squawking about "socialism" when the BILLIONS were free-flowing to New Orleans to be spent any way they liked. You know--like the $2k debit cards buying things like liquor, Coach Leather, Burberry and the like.

My parents live in central FL (inland, miles away from the ocean), they were hit with FOUR hurricanes in 2004. Replaced their roof twice (didn't have a chance between two hurricanes to replace it a third time), the last hurricane (believe it was Jeanne) left their home and yard flooded for MONTHS afterward.

They took NOT ONE CENT from FEMA. They were retired at the time, but have since both gone back to work to replenish their retirement funds, as they were nearly depleted from paying for repairs, deductibles and INCREASED premiums. They are currently 68 and 72. Damned shame *they* weren't given the help they deserved as seniors who've paid in more than they will EVER get back.

Que cera cera.....

we are already 115 billion over budget and it has not even been implemented yet.
Enough said.

In other words, you are making assumptions based on NOTHING. Thanks for clearing that up. You are better than that, Jarhead.

Th hell i wasn't! Bush had absolutley NO control over that situation. Once he started looking bad for his lack of response to the original problem, he and FEMA were dumb enough to think that simply THROWING my tax dollars at the problem would make it go away.

Excuse me VaYank.

I am making assumptions based on my reasoning skills, past history as it pertains to government projections and actual costs and my own personal logic that has worked quite well for me over the years.

My assumptions are by no means based on NOTHING and I ask that you retract that. Becuase, yes, I am better than that.

No, I will not. You are ATTEMPTING to state, as fact, that taxes are going to go up. Yet you have NO data to support such a claim.

Amazing how politicians do stupid things based on political pressure. Bush wasnt the first and as we see with out current President, he was by no means the last.

I see. So in your world, we are not permitted to make decisions based on our own thinking. They must be based strictly on facts offered to us by people that have been proven to be wrong with facts many times in the past.

Fine. Dont retract. Stick to your insult to me becuase you have decided to believe the facts offered by those that are wrong more often than not when it comes to figures.

No problem here.

No problem here.

All you have to do when using internal logic as opposed to easily located data, is start your premonitions off with "In my opinion".....how hard is that?

How long was their house submerged in water?

They took NOT ONE CENT from FEMA.

Who fucking cares? So they have homeowners insurance, good for them. Most people I know didn't take a cent from FEMA after Katrina and Rita. In fact most people I know volunteered a lot of their time to help others less fortunate, and they didn't walk around looking down their noses while they did it. I know one guy who got a FEMA card and he was displaced from both his home and work by the storm and has more than paid it back by now in taxes.

If it is a repeat flood zone, not smart at all. Actually, quite foolish.

Nashville has not experienced that kind of flooding in--well, ever. As in never. This is why people didn't have flood insurance for the most part. Such insurance is only issued by the gov't and only in known flood plains.

Maybe we shouldn't rebuild the WTC because of the risk of terrorist attack. Or the Pentagon either.

Isn't the WTC a private venture? I don't give a shit what they do with their own private funding.
