So GM sells low priced models. And they sell high priced models, like Cadillacs etc. If the Feds step in and declare that it represents discrimination against low income people and from now on all GM vehicles will be sold at the same price, what does anyone suppose will happen?
Right, GM will sell every model for the price of a Cadillac.
And when they do they that, how many low priced Chevys will they sell? Right, none. Because the price of the premium product is the same as the economy model.
Now, apply this to labor. The feds set a floor on the price of labor via min wage. Some workers can produce 10/hr in profit to their employers. Others much less. Now you're an employer needing to hire. Do you hire the 10/hr worker for 10/hr, or do you hire the 5/hr worker for 10/hr?
Duh, right. You hire the cadillac of low skilled workers.
That leaves a bunch of 5/hr workers without jobs.
Which is exactly the situation we have now. Raising the min wage makes that worse.
So remind me why we want to do that?
