Federal Clean Slate law unveiled with bipartisan support | TribLIVE.com
A proposed federal law designed to seal nonviolent criminal records is drawing from the kind of bipartisan support that ushered a similar measure to law in Pennsylvania last summer.

I would say go for it because if they can't ever live a life where they can work for their money because the system is engineered that way how in the hell do you expect anyone to make it if never given the chance.

It will help "if" you are convicted of a federal crime yet at the state level it does nothing.
The person could move. Many of the background checks that would adversely effect an individual are done through federal background checks.

Therefore it only applies to white-collar criminals that fuck people over for their life savings? Oh hell no! This is what our government is doing, really? Wtf?!

Good point. Those who could benefit the most would be the plebes.

No, shysters is who would benefit. People that rip people off.
If it was done right; it would benefit the plebes. As it stands now. Like most things... It’ll probably benefit those least deserving, or least in need. But it is a start. Our criminal justice system is decades behind the need for substantive, effective reform. What we do now clearly isn’t working. And hasn’t been for a long time...

The more felons that vote...the more felons get elected.
The problem with the label felon; is that it is not indicative of the crime that was committed. It is only indicative of the possible sentence the offender “could” have received, within a given jurisdiction. And that can vary as wildly as such an act being a felony in one state, and not even being considered a crime in another. That’s a piss poor metric for deciding how good, or bad what a person has done is...
Such a metric says that some chick who wrote a bad check 30 years ago, is just as heinous, and reprehensible as the scumbag who raped 40 toddlers, and ate their parents a month ago.

All you have to do is move to California, Didn't I hear they're not prosecuting people for Minor crimes like theft, etc. Go there you won't have to worry about a criminal record. But if you do get convicted they'll just put you on "Poop cleanup". What a great Idea arrest the Homeless drug addicts and scumbags and put them to work cleaning up after the other homeless drug addicts and scumbags. Wouldn't have to pay the poop patrol people! Tthe problem cleans up after itself.

Meh, it’s a good idea, but there is the fact that they were in prison. Don’t get me wrong, it’s BS that you serve your punishment, yet still pay when you are done.

Maybe we should make a prisons a place where a mother fucker never ever wants to go back too! So many recidivist Criminals. Maybe if they didn't expect they were going to get amenities many people not in prison don't enjoy. Telephones, Televisions, etc. Why do prisoners have access to electrical powered Devices that are for personal use. Cut costs by that electric use . Tax dollars should pay for the bare minimum for the length of all incarceration. 3 hots and a cot that's it. when Prisoners can run criminal organizations from within prison there's a problem don't you think?

Punishments should be swift, severe, and comensurate with the crime committed. But when it's over; it's over. That's the only way to add both a deterrent element, and foster a reintroduction into society whereby the convicted can continue on with a productive life.
