Fairness Doctrine Senate Hearings on the Way?

I hate the FCC and any form of censrship ... does that answer your question?

You are my favorite new hero!

The FCC has been so intrusive in my business for the past year because of the DTV switch, our company is losing money.

It's sad really. The government comes in and claims they will help, only to screw things up even more.

I shouldn't be surprised, it's always been like this.

And yes, to answer TruthMatters point, there very well may be porn on every channel, but as someone who believes in the free market, shouldn't society dictate what product is provided? If people hate porn, they won't watch it.

Yes, I understand that the airwaves belong to the public, but that model is extremely outdated and now serves as a hinderance to broadcast companies who are trying to keep up with cable companies.

I am guessing they are trying to destroy all broadcast entertainment ... for what reason I don't know, but even if they aren't doing it on purpose it's happening with each new change. With the DTV con (making everyone think they need that stupid box) I foresee broadcast TV just vanishing (sadly) because people will turn to cable, online, or just not bother with TV at all anymore. The FCC has forced a ton of good entertainment from being aired just because someone might "find it offensive" or to "protect the children" ... protect them from what? Hearing the words they use themselves? Really ... it's censorship of any sort is just plain stupid.

Can you say 'Civil War?'

No one for having the government tell anyone what they can or cannot say also cannot call themselves American ... period. It was freedom of speech that granted us our rights in the first fucking place. It is freedom of speech that allows us to gain access to the views we want to hear, it is freedom of speech that all our other freedoms are built upon. It is the one right and freedom that all others are built on. So, if you don't like hearing some ball of blubber babbling about things you disagree with ... turn off the damned radio.

Why only condemn government? The structure of most corporations would be called fascistic were it manifested in the form of a nation-state. And the ideological conformity promoted by indoctrination would seem to me to be a far more malevolent form of coercion than government intervention to prevent such indoctrination from occurring.

Now how do you all feel about giving free of charge the use of our airwaves to corporations?

Its market value is in the hundereds of billions.

You still don't see the difference? You really are naive. Businesses are in for profit, of course they like to 'indoctrinate', what the hell do you think commercials are? I have a bag of Skittles next to my computer, why? Because I saw a commercial about it a few days ago and thought "that sounds good right now" ... the bag will last me several months because I don't eat much sugar in reality. It's how businesses stay in business, by getting you to buy their product or use their services. However as any psychologist worth the money they get paid will tell you ... unless you are insane no one can ever force you to make choices you do not already wish to make. It's impossible (and the reason I see torture as just a waste of resources). Hypnosis is a gag, it's not real, brainwashing is not real either (otherwise I'd still be Mormon). Commercials are successful only because they remind us of something we want or like, or sometimes need. The government having control though risks the chances of our access to all information being limited or restricted. If someone wants to find information now you can find it, information about anything from any side, the media would be more like that if there was less government regulation. Just keep taxing them for using the air waves and disband the FCC ... there will be more entertainment, more views, and probably more stations available. Force them to say things that are not popular in their area and they WILL begin to vanish. Smart people don't even use the TV or radio for information (except in disasters), they look it up instead.

The difference is that corporate power is able to disguise itself as an entity independent of the state while continuing to propagandize without restraint. I'll comment further on this later, but I would recommend having a look at Noam Chomsky and Edward Herman's Manufacturing Consent, as well as Chomsky's Necessary Illusions and Media Control.

Oh, and anyone who thinks news is truth needs to really look into their stories more. They only show what gets ratings, often times ignoring a lot of info or exaggerating some just to increase ratings.

Let me explain what the doctrine does.

If Rush tells lies about me I can force him to allow me to come on his show and present the evidence he lied about me.

If he says the moon is made of green cheese and I can prove it isnt he has to allow me on the show to present the evidence that it is not made of green cheese.

It would also mean Fox cant fire reporters who refuse to change a factual story into a pack of lies.

The same group that wants this doctrine, petitioned to get Rush off the air over a LIE you freakin halfwit. But please, preach to me some more about "fairness" ......:cuckoo::lol:

There are many people who want this reinstated.

Please discribe the harm to any one side if it applied to EVERYONE?

For christ sake....

Ok, i'll play along, who will enforce the fact that this is applied to everyone ?

What will it accomplish besides a bunch of wasted bickering, time and money ?

Why is this bullshit even a thought right now with the way the economy is going ?

What is the damge to anyone with the FD in place?

Rating drop ... they can no longer sell commercial time ... they then can no longer afford to pay the employees ... they go out of business ... then they all end up on welfare. That pretty much damages everyone.

On what do you base these statements?

This was in place in the past and radio still had no problem making ratings , selling commerical time.

These are myths.

The people who can prove the lies are being said. If no one approaches the outlet with a request for time then nothing happens. If someone does then they have to allow them on or the person can take them to court.

It will prevent lies form being touted as fact.

This has nothing to do with the economy BUT we could start charging the outlets for the use of the airwaves instead of giving it to them free.

What happens when Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann lie about a bunch of things, get taken to court and some liberal judge rules that they were telling the truth ? :eusa_whistle:

It will be a huge, redundant cycle of crapola that wastes a ton of time and money.

But who cares right ? It will make the liberal cry babies happy and thats all that really matters......:cuckoo:
