Sadly, what passes for "music" today can't hold a candle to the classics. The days of groups like the Beatles or the Rolling Stones who could hold up over generations are gone.

I never mentioned those songs. The Beatles and The Rolling Stones have nothing to do with that. Though Carey did have a tremendous vocal range in her prime.

That is the song that was replaced as the longest running number 1. My point, which you totally missed, was that this song taking over number one is not really that big of a deal. The best music often does not sell well.

Just to put things in perspective ... in 1969, the 'Summer of Love', the height of the counter-culture, the year of Height-Ashbury, the moon landing, political assassinations, and so much turmoil in our land ... the number one hit of the year was ...



Quite literally, the day the music died.
