Things like 'Amblyrhiza inundata, Northern Lesser Antilles, 11000 BC.'

a. The second part of the link lists many that are not "forest birds or mammals"....
and from what the link states, extinction is a guess based on sightings....meaning that,
as the OP suggests....the 'science' is based on assumptions and estimates.

Further, you seem not to understand what 'subspecies' means; they interbreed within the species....so may not
be extinct at all.

The wikipedia list is not very huge but I'm crapping right now so you probably can use google. I said it was not as large a list of big animals as I expected anyways but perhaps I said something to offend you and ya skipped over it.

Look up the endangered species list also.

Our tax dollars are going to folks who are apparently doing a fine job masturbating bison and bald eagles and california kondors and perhaps others in the past and preaent to keep the species going. I hate it that my tax dollars must go to that but somehow I want my kid to see the same world I grew up in. You'll understand someday maybe.

The only critters that are truly endangered are those that are being killed to support the Asian quack medicine and sexual enhancement trade, and of course the whales. Basically if the animal can be poached for profit it is endangered. No animal is endangered due to climate.

And? Species go extinct. It's a sad fact of life. A 15 year cycle is very limiting when the fish you are competing against do it in one third the time. This case doesn't even look like man is the proximal cause, they are simply being out competed by more efficient species.
