The gritty-scrappy Philadelphia Eagles (NFL) have accomplished the impossible --- they've defeated the Goliath-like New England Patriots tonight to capture their first-ever Super Bowl trophy(!).

How did they do it? Solid and tight play with measured defense in the first half allowed the Eagles to go out to a 22-12 lead. The second half saw the Eagles maintain a lead as the Patriots scrambled to keep up or close the gap (sometimes with great focus behind the leadership of always-precise Tom Brady). A key late-game touchdown from Foles to Ertz helped the Eagles strengthen their resolve to the end and pull away with a 41-33 victory in Super Bowl 52(!).

The Ertz-touchdown was reviewed (since the ball seemed to be bobbled and may have touched the ground), but the call was upheld (since the ball was confirmed as being nestled and juggled into a catch).

This was a huge achievement for televised sports, not only because the underdog Eagles pulled off (most arguably) the greatest upset in Super Bowl history, but also because the Patriots at least enjoyed playing in their whopping 8th Super Bowl since 2000. The Eagles had ironically reached a whopping 6 NFC Championship games since 2000 but won only 2 [2005, 2018]. This victory over Brady's Patriots avenges the Eagles' loss to the Patriots 24-21 in Super Bowl 39 [2005].

What will this mean for next season, when everyone continues to see if Brady's Patriots will dominate in some way or another? What will this mean for the city of Philadelphia --- a city of great sports-fanfare and also many urban challenges (the Eagles were the only professional Philly sports team to have never gained a championship trophy).

No one is really upset with the outcome of Super Bowl 52, though the Patriots have failed to win their record-smashing 6th Vince Lombardi trophy (which may as well have been renamed the Bill Belichick trophy).

GOD: Everything went right for Philadelphia tonight!
SATAN: True, but Ertz' touchdown was almost a call-back.
GOD: That ball was rightly-nestled; Brady has finally lost.
SATAN: Brady lost in 3 Super Bowls [2008, 2012, 2018].
GOD: Yes, the first two losses came to Eli Manning's NY Giants!
SATAN: Nick Foles (Eagles) has closed out the Eagles' improbable season.
GOD: This is the greatest upset in Super Bowl history.
SATAN: Only poets and madmen bet on the Eagles...
GOD: George Clooney should make a film about the Eagles.
SATAN: Ron Howard should direct the film!
GOD: The Eagles will become comic book heroes (e.g., Defenders of the Earth).
SATAN: The American Bald Eagle has replaced the New England 'Patriot.'
GOD: There may be race-riots in Philadelphia and Boston tomorrow!
SATAN: Nah, Eagles fans are relatively very grounded and sane...
GOD: If Brady and Belichick win more Super Bowl trophies, no one will forget 2018.
SATAN: That's because the gritty-scrappy Eagles won with their cool backup-QB.
GOD: Nick Foles surpassed the likes of Ferragamo (LA Rams) in a Super Bowl.
SATAN: Foles was a dark-horse QB who coordinated team-play to pull off a miracle!
GOD: Philadelphia residents will smile more about televised dream-fulfillment...

I enjoyed watching the game and I'm hardly even much of a football fan anymore.

The more consistently successful team won and the officiating didn't screw up the game, that's like a miracle nowadays...

btw. I really don't get why Justin Timberlake is so popular .. :dunno:
