Because of Labor Strikes in China:

The Taiwanese firm announced in June two raises, more than doubling the basic worker pay to 2,000 yuan ($293) a month for Chinese workers who make iPhones, iPads and other brand-name electronics for corporations including Apple Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Co.

The raises followed 10 worker suicides at the Foxconn compound in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen. Labor activists have linked the suicides to unduly harsh conditions at the plant, where more than 300,000 people are employed.

This is why we need education in this country to compete.

This is why Carly Fiorina, beloved and admired by Republicans as part of the future of the party, who was head of Hewlett-Packard, moved 18,000 American Jobs to China.

Only two ways to compete. Either increase our technical expertise or work for $292 a month.

Something to think about.

From her website:

One woman empowered by information, training, micro lending, technology and the advocacy of their basic rights can uplift families and communities. Millions of women given access to a larger world of support and enabled to participate in their local workplace can transform whole economies and regions.

Thank Carly. The only reason she sent 18,000 jobs to China was to teach GREEDY American people that it IS possible to live on $292.00 A MONTH! Before the Republicans are through, every Middle Class American will have a job making at least $292.00 A MONTH!

Your wish can be our command. I have not checked for accuracy, but if I remember right, the average wage in the United States fell in the first four years of the Great Depression by something like 45%.

Carried to an extreme, we could be working for the $292 that the Chinese Communists do in their Worker's Utopia.

Absolutely incorrect. Labor is only part of the cost structure. Taxes, real estate, materials, distribution costs etc. all affect decisions as well.

It makes sense for Global Companies to locate operations near their international customers. Foreign owned companies locate in the U.S. for precisely that reason as well.

What has differentiated the U.S. in the past and enabled us to pay higher wages is INNOVATION. Sadly, our economically and business illiterate government has no clue how to encourage an environment which is friendly to true innovation. They think government meddling and promotion of uneconomic business models is the equivalent of real investors placing capital in real businesses that meet the needs of real customers with viable products and services with real market based prices - and market based wages for the employees.

Bill Clinton passed the second largest tax increase in history, mostly on those making more than 150,000 a year, when Democrats controlled both houses. This led to unprecedented prosperity and the creation of 26 million jobs.

During the 50's and 60's the tax rate on the top 5% was anywhere from 75 to 90% and they still lived in mansions and drove Ferrari's. And the economy grew at an unprecedented rate. And the country, as a whole, invested in science and technology.

And the largest tax increase in US history? That Republican God, Ronald Reagan.

Bush presided over the greatest tax cuts in history, which led to the creation of a measly three million jobs over 8 years.

We are paying the lowest taxes in 50 years and the Republican solution is to cut taxes for the rich. I can't believe it. 1% just got 52% of 2.4 trillion dollars and it's not enough.

The reason the economy goes over a cliff and the deficit explodes every time the Republicans are in charge is because they cut taxes for the rich with no offset. And when they do spend? Like the trillion dollar drug bill for votes? It's mind blowing.

Normal Americans want to support the US. They will put money back into the economy and want to do what is good for America. They understand it's the "Middle Class" that's good for America.

Republicans say, "Fuck the middle class, the bums, the hobos, the spoiled. Tell them to sober up and go get a job". Except that job now belongs to the Chinese at $293.00 a month.

Republicans want to squeeze every drop of blood out of this country. Every cent they can get. And it's their retarded base that suffers more than anyone. They gladly put the noose around their own necks because their leadership tells them to. The inbreeding has caused brain damage. What else could it be?

With the exception of the chemical and pharma industries, 90% of the innovation in this country for the last 60 years has come from government research contracts.

The myth of American private industry being the spearhead of innovation is just that - a myth.

The big corp's just don't advertise that the bulk of their innovation came under government contracts.

Let see...take a guess...

Where did the internet come from?

Where did laser technology come from?

Where does aerospace technology come from?

Heavy Machinery?

I'm going to steal your idea in the last paragraph and create a thread about it.

Right wingers on this site go on endlessly about those "lazy" scientists who sit on their duffs taking money from government sponsorship while contributing nothing.

Worse, they insist that the reason there are almost no Republicans scientists is because the "left wing liberal elite" holds them back.

The centers for innovation and science are in the Blue states and the the few that are in the Red states are there because people have moved from the Blue states. They're diverse and they vote Democrat.

I keep asking, "What do the southern conservative Confederate Republicans ADD to the country?" and they can't answer. And it's not just "science". It's everything. Art, literature, music, agriculture, engineering, dance. The entire philosophy of the conservative culture is to "hold things back", to keep things as they were. There is no development. No "new". Instead of a tiny bit of "introspection", they will say, "You can't say that about ALL conservatives". It's their way of "changing the dialog" from what they refuse to face. It's like when they, "You can't call the Republican party a "white" party", even though it's 90% white.

And this need to funnel American wealth to those already "rich"? Where is that coming from?

And the ignorance is so astounding. When I talked about "science" in agricultural, they called me nuts and crazy. Farming is "growing things". It's been happening for thousands of years. There's no "science".

Trying to explain new grains or farm animals that have been developed and made resiistant to disease through the understanding of genetics is impossible. People who fight "learning" can't.

Republicans think "heavy machinery" means it "weighs a lot". They think Cpt. Kirk used a "laser" and don't know what "aerospace" is or the connection to technology.
