I haven't given them a cent in years.

Busted Leaked Salvation Army Document Shows It s Still Homophobic Allison Hope

What's more annoying than the constant ringing of bells by Salvation Army donation-bucket volunteers during the holiday season? The organization's longstanding, outspoken homophobia, of course!

Last year the Salvation Army did a media blitz claiming that it no longer believes same-sex lovin' is a sin.

Turns out they were lying. An internal document was recently leaked, and it reveals the dishonest disconnect between what the Salvation Army was telling the public -- that they are more LGBT-friendly than their checkered past would indicate -- and the fact that they are actually still just as homophobic as ever.

Never buy from them, let alone support them. Got a plushie husky from them when I was 10, but that's about it.

Figured they were some weird Christian socialist cult when I was growing up, and that they were a second hand store at the same time.

The SA does more to help the poor than damn near anyone or org, and b/c they don't support gays, you want to hurt them.

faggot, your self pity and hate is harming poor people you ignorant self righteous poser
Catholic Church does far more, as does the Mormon Church. Don't need to endorse fringe Christianity to help the poor.

profound ignorance.
Nah, reality.

They are a very strange and communial bunch, to say the least. Their views on the family are also very old fashioned.

The Salvation Army is one of the best charitable groups out there. They have a very good drug treatment group up in Reno, and elsewhere, and unlike every other CEO of a charity I've ever heard of, they don't make loads of cash for doing their charitable work. The current figure is around 128,000 for running a 2 BILLION dollar a year corporation. They are rated at an 82% efficiency, which is one of the better ones out there. As a comparison the SA CEO makes one quarter of the next lowest CEO out there.

How about we all put a few dollars in a kettle tomorrow, along with a little note stating the donation is in the name of "Howey" from the usmessageboard.com.

Lol. That's fine! Normally we donate to groups that focus on pediatric AIDS and adults with AIDS or other disabilities. I'll gladly mention USMB as a fellow contributor this year, particularly DigitalDrifter.

Thanks for setting me straight.

Wait.

Thanks for correcting me. :)

The Salvation Army is a religious organization, based on christian beliefs. They do not refuse to serve or help gays. They simply want their leaders and employees to be examples of what their faith believes.

Many times over the years people have complained that gays want to force the churches to be "gay churches". I always claimed that there was no such desire. That gays simply want to be treated fairly and equally. Howey, here is your chance. The Salvation Army is not withholding help from gays. They will still take care of them when they are down, help them with addictions and offer them guidance. Does that mean that they have to throw out the beliefs they have in order to satisfy the world? The Salvation Army is asking its employees to conform to the faith and to abide by it. Why is that wrong? They are not forcing anyone else to do so. They still have the same mission they always have, and help the needy.

I continue to support the Salvation Army and always will, they are among the oldest organizations in our nation to support those in need. They may choose to stay out of "politics" and not agree with every position that is out there, but that is not their cause behind what they do. They always take the time to support those who have a real need and give out of the resources they have, not just at Christmas but throughout the year. If you have personal issues with how they choose to do things, start your own charity organization instead of choosing to make everyone suffer so that you can feel more "self righteous".

When the Salvation Army came to our house offering a hot meal in the aftermath of the Mississippi flood of the 90s, they didn't ask if we were straights.

Gays have no business expecting anyone or any organization to affirm their lifestyle choice.

You can't have your own views on morals, we all need to have all the same morals, views and opinions, as long as they agree with yours. Got it.

I don't care what morals you have, you're the statist. If I it was up to me, self determination would be a right. Though if you think discrimination is right, you have a weird perception of morality.
