We see often here a lot of chatter than red states or blues states are more lenient on crime because of the party in charge. In fact, that is a very loose comment to make without facts. In fact, some red states have twice the murder rate ( not numbers, the rate per population) than blue states. "According to a fact check by the BBC, the top 10 cities for overall violent crime, which includes major urban areas New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, are all run by Democrats. However, some of the fastest increases in murder rates are in Republican-run cities 1. Another study by the Third Way think tank shows that Republican states are reporting much higher homicide rates and some of the highest murder rates are in cities led by Republican mayors 23. It is important to note that crime rates are influenced by a variety of factors such as population density, poverty levels, and law enforcement policies. Therefore, it is not accurate to make a blanket statement that one political party is responsible for higher crime rates than the other 1."
Trump and other candidates need to be careful of their claims.

Fact check: Big cities have crime and more Democrats, but it's a stretch to link them
A viral Facebook post links “America’s deadliest cities” with having a “Democrat majority,” implying a causal connection. But that's a stretch at best.
