Active Shooter is a documentary show on Showtime. Each episode looks at a different mass public shooting by talking to experts, police and actual victims of the shooters.
I have watched the Aurora theater shooting episode, and the Columbine shooting episode....
What we learn......had people been armed with legal hand guns...lives could have been saved.
Aurora:
The drum magazine caused his rifle to malfunction.....
From a psychiatrist who interviewed the shooter....he wanted the shooting to be impersonal...so when he entered the theater, he had people right in front of him....and he didn't shoot them, he fired over them and into the more impersonal crowd.
Several of the victims and many of the ones who escaped....would have had more than enough time to draw pistols and return fire....this is from direct statements made by those he shot.....they describe him dealing with the jam of his rifle due to the 100 round magazine, and the shear number of people he didn't shoot who were right near him when he started shooting.....since, again, he didn't shoot those closest to him.
Another point....one of the people in the theater, as the killer approached, had a smile on their face.....the shooter and the psychiatrist talked about this and determined it was either a nervous reaction, or a grimace...but.....it made a connection with the shooter and he didn't shoot that indivdual....
Columbine:
Another situation where armed teachers, administrators or police on campus could have saved lives...
The nice thing about the two shows so far.......there wasn't an anti gun, anti gun owner mentality. They had two parents of one of the victims who were introduced as activists....but they didn't describe what their agenda was, right away. It turns out they are pushing for the Media.....to stop giving mass shooters Notoriety.....to actually be responsible and to stop covering these killers in ways that turn them into infamous celebrities....
So far, a good show...and it shows two shows in that armed citizens could have made a difference....
