Matt Bevin is no longer the governor of Kentucky, but his decisions continued to send shock waves through the state’s legal system this week after he issued pardons for hundreds of people, some of whom committed violent offenses.

Bevin issued 428 pardons since his defeat to Democrat Andy Beshear in a close election in November, the Louisville Courier Journal reported. His list includes a man convicted of reckless homicide, a convicted child rapist, a man who murdered his parents at age 16 and a woman who threw her newborn in the trash after giving birth in a flea market outhouse.

He also pardoned Dayton Jones, who was convicted in the sexual assault of a 15-year-old boy at a party, Kentucky New Era reported.
It is not unusual for governors to issue pardons as they leave office, but Bevin’s actions boggled some of the state’s attorneys, who questioned his judgment.

“What this governor did is an absolute atrocity of justice,” said Commonwealth Attorney Jackie Steele, a prosecutor for Knox and Laurel counties. “He’s put victims, he’s put others in our community in danger.”

Yeah, and he gave more than 100,000 felons the right to vote with a stroke of a pen........... OH WAIT...........that was the new guy.

Did Bevin exceed his authority? Or are you just pissed because a republican did it?

Don't all governors review cases before they pardon them? Aren't there always two sides to every story, and in all these cases, it seems to me, what ever side we are hearing, it is being aired by a biased media source.

Anyone that really cares to, can go to a search engine and find examples of opposite articles.

Unless you are the governor with access to the actual files and evidence, you can't really make judicious and sober judgements on these cases.

This is a troll thread.

I could post articles making him look compassionate and like a hero.

Although, to be fair, that one where the folks gave a donation so he would look at their brothers case? Yeah, that is sort of sleazy. :71:

Remind me...did those felons serve their time?

And

Are you attempting to justify some pretty horrible pardons?

Because if you are....

that is unbelievable.

So what do you think of his recent pardons?

What do I think of what the corporate press is trying to do to the public's emotions over them? Or what is my opinion of the actual pardons and commutations? :dunno:

". . .A pardon implies either that the conviction was wrong, that there has been complete rehabilitation of the party, or that he/she has lived an exemplary life for many years and deserves to have his/her name cleared in old age. Commutation implies the penalty was excessive or there has been rehabilitation, reform, or other circumstances such as good conduct or community service. Commutation is sometimes used when there is evidence that the defendant was not guilty but it would prove embarrassing to admit an outright error by the courts.. . "

of the 428 pardons less than 2% of them were guilty of crimes egregious enough to warrant mention in this propaganda piece.
