    actually, up until the american revolution, it wasn't. and even since then it isn't. it's just that war and domestic strife provide much more to write about that the time between those events don't get noticed.

    the situation in thailand is nothing new --- since the establishment of the constitutional monarchy, this kind of thing has flared every few years. the biggest difference i can see this time to previous flare-ups is that the king has interceded and settled things down in the past. this year he has been ill and not been heard from since january.
