What it says is a late winter/early spring is hitting the northeast coast this Friday/Saturday with a foot of snow something that is not vastly uncommon so I'm wondering what is the reason for calling this a cyclone bomb?

Probably put out by the weather channel. They have a way of dressing the normal up a bit.

Ok, seems this will be a high wind and flooding event.

Yeah but that is a gimme, you drive to a hotel, park your car in one of the middle levels and get an interior room. Take public transit to work if you evacuate in place. Very, very simple.
