Exactly. My first wife is from Vermont. Our son was born in Portsmouth Naval Hospital. My (then) in-laws made it clear that, if we moved up there when we got out of the Navy, and no matter how long he loved there, he would never be a "Vermonter". You know, because he was born in another state. There was an old guy who lived down the road from my mother-in-law that they referred to as an out-of-stater. He moved there in his early 20s. Lived there all his life. Had to be 75 back then. But still an out-of-stater.

Those folks are weird about it.
