Not only that, but the lifetime is related to abuse, not much different then an engine or transmission. Really, I don’t these idiots know how much we spend on maintenance of ICE vehicles vs an EV.The new batteries are to go over 150K before it starts to degrade. I work on the automotive EV batteries and you don't replace the whole pack when it starts to degrade or malfunction. The really good batteries are fixed by replacing just the malfunctioning cell, not the whole battery.
Today's Lion4 battery cell will go about 2000 cycles or about 10 to 15 years before the first cell will need replacement. A decent design means that you can replace each cell for about 30 bucks. That battery will not require total replacement for many years.
With the new batteries, they should cost about what your engine will cost and last about as long. In fact, the new battery will cost much less than your engine and cost a fraction to replace in labor.
