Could the Pirate Party be the future in the political world or just another Reform Party?

It look like Iceland will elect the Pirate Party and I wonder will this political party grow internationally more than it has already or is it Iceland version of the Reform Party and just another political party that will die out in a few years!?!

Single issue party... a bit of a stretch I think. Although, it's not like green party isn't similar in that regard.

These folks are Libertarians with attitude. Anarchists with organizing abilities. And entirely cute and correct about a lot of things. They represent a backlash against the inability of older political systems to address the crushing pressures of privacy lost and the way govt information gets dissemanated and "spun". .

I'm a-heading to Iceland if they win. Their vision for the 21st Century is a lot more exciting that then the messes we've created here. Or -- maybe I'll open a Pirate Franchise HERE in the states, and we can operate out of Key West..

Iceland's Radical Pirate Party Is In The Lead Days Before The Election | Huffington Post

If elected, the Pirates pledge to drastically overhaul Iceland’s government and change the constitution to a crowdsourced document. It’s an unconventional platform that is resonating with the large percentage of Iceland’s population that’s disillusioned with the nation’s political establishment.

Iceland’s Pirate Party is only 4 years old, and was originally formed as a protest party to change copyright law. The Pirates’ platform has since expanded to encompass a wide range of reforms and initiatives, including offering asylum to American whistleblower Edward Snowden. Although numerous other activist pirate parties exist throughout Europe, only Iceland’s has reached this level of success. The pirate movement began in Sweden in 2006, focusing on issues including civil rights, internet freedom and copyright reform.

The Pirate Party has provided an outlet for Icelanders’ discontent, promising direct democracy and transparency. Like many pirate parties, it promotes itself as a technology-focused, progressive people’s movement. The Pirates’ aim is mostly political and social, however, and it says it will avoid drastic economic changes that could damage the country’s recovery. It draws most of its support from voters under 40 years old.

This AIN'T A DRILL --- Polls have them WINNING tomorrow's election. And their political ideas are gonna have the world discussing their concerns.

Civil rights are the legally protected rights that an individual has to participation in a democratic society. Civil rights include but are not limited to the right to vote, religious freedom, freedom of expression, freedom of the press and the right to engage in peaceful protest.
Information is that which informs, i.e., that from which data can be derived. Information is conveyed either as the contents of a message or through direct or indirect observation of some thing. That which is perceived can be construed as a message in its own right, and in that sense, information is always conveyed as the contents of a message. Information can be encoded into various forms for transmission and interpretation. For example, information may be encoded into signs, and transmitted via signals.
1. Critical thinking and well-informed policy

1.1 Pirates emphasize critical thinking and well-informed decisions.

2. Civil rights

3. A right to privacy

4. Transparency and responsibility

5. Freedom of information and expression

6. Direct democracy and the right to self-determination

If you live on a tiny island like Iceland, or England, or Ireland, or Australia, or Japan, or even in a natural fortress like Switzerland, then you can do anything you want in government and as long as you can guard your borders from Islamists then you don't have any of the big international problems of the larger nations like France, Germany, and the USA.

Interesting part is -- that "tiny island" has been rocked by govt corruption and scandals for years now. So OBVIOUSLY -- you can "do anything you want". Which I why I'm giving these Pirates a 10 cannon salute for figuring out to handle "power" in a 21st century kind of way.

Trump showed us how easy it is to Pirate power and board and loot the media. He's a pirate of sorts. A smelly ugly one, but he's got the idea about Pirating and how the PEOPLE should get in front of information, privacy, technology issues and NOT let 18th century govt thinking try and handle those issues.

Actually I know I made the Anal Pirate comment and I am really bad at egging this shit on but let discuss the Pirate Movement and could they catch on here in the States!?!

Or

Is this the type of Government that work on smaller populations but the United States is too big and need something more moderate that mixes Socialism and Capitalism!?!

As I clearly implied, my answer is "B".

Thank you very much.

I wouldn't say it's 18th century government but 1950's is what it remind me of... It seem as the world marches on this government stays in the past for some reason and never learn from it mistakes...

You are exactly right flacaltenn .

However fortunately as Abe Lincoln said, no one not even Trump can fool all the people all of the time.

Trump is finished. His base is too small and has not expanded.

Hillary is going to win it all.

So Trump hijacked the GOP primary, however the whole Body Politic is going to see through him now.

There's room for a lot of SANE rational people and parties in our political system. At the end of the day, a Libertarian Govt or a Green Govt or a Pirate Govt for 4 or 8 years ain't gonna wreck the Constitution and probably would IMPROVE things in their areas of interest and expertise.

And APPARENTLY -- there IS PiratesUSA.org political organization. I just chickened out when the browser put a "security alert" on the page. See ??????? Now there is a conspiracy to control your information right there..

The thing that got them started was patents and copyrights. They are new post-industrial age currency.

I don't like the idea of "ripping off" inventors. Because invention is the new universal job category for the 21st century. Apparently -- they are rational on this. And only want to make that process saner and more democratic. Which is great -- because Disney gets special treatment for Mickey Mouse for another 100 years, while the "fringe music" publisher is still stuck with 20 years. THAT -- is EXACTLY the "power modulation" that these "kids" are about. And they have the right knowledge and mind set to understand the future implications of technology which can REALLY LEAD to Owellian nightmares of corporatism and govt control and collusion.

There is NO WAY -- our stogey Congress critters will EVER wrapped their minds about those issues. When our Govt can't create a Website for < $1BILL and can't figure out how Hillary got away with a completely unsecured Communications system for all her years at State.
