Bush v. Gore
The individual citizen has no federal constitutional right to vote for electors for the President of the United States unless and until the state legislature chooses a statewide election as the means to implement its power to appoint members of the Electoral College. U.S. Const., Art. II, §1. This is the source for the statement in McPherson v. Blacker, 146 U.S. 1, 35 (1892), that the State legislature’s power to select the manner for appointing electors is plenary; it may, if it so chooses, select the electors itself, which indeed was the manner used by State legislatures in several States for many years after the Framing of our Constitution. Id., at 28—33. History has now favored the voter, and in each of the several States the citizens themselves vote for Presidential electors. When the state legislature vests the right to vote for President in its people, the right to vote as the legislature has prescribed is fundamental; and one source of its fundamental nature lies in the equal weight accorded to each vote and the equal dignity owed to each voter. The State, of course, after granting the franchise in the special context of Article II, can take back the power to appoint electors. See id., at 35 (“[T]here is no doubt of the right of the legislature to resume the power at any time, for it can neither be taken away nor abdicated”) (quoting S. Rep. No. 395, 43d Cong., 1st Sess.).

I guess you have never heard of an absentee ballot by mail. Ya don't need a car ya git.

I have voted naked, in the comfort of my bed for years and years. No driving involved.

It's not about "car" dumbass. It's about, well, you figure it out.

What is wrong with these right wingers?

The Federal Constitution has 3 Amendments that directly state who is protected and allowed to vote in Federal elections. Granted the original document does not State who can and can not vote. Amendments are part of the Constitution once passed and properly voted on. So there are 3 places in the Constitution that state who can legally vote.

Constitution guarantees the right to vote - note to GOP voter suppressors.

People in tiny cities know each other. Sometimes for 80 years. Many don't have cars.

The constitution guarantees the right to vote.

Why don't Republicans just campaign on policy? Why scam? Why suppress? Why fight the constitution they claim to "love"?

Just campaign on your "policies". Unless you know your policies aren't "right". Just campaign on your policies. Show America why they should vote for Republicans. They don't need to screw over Americans to get votes, do they?

Voter Fraud is a Felony.

Notice, the real issue here is that if Republican policies are so good, why not just run on them? Lay your cards down before the American people. Why cheat? Why scam? Why not just be "honest".

Where did that come from? Hasn't there been about 5 or 6 cases of voter fraud, out of tens of millions of votes over the last decade? Voter fraud, not voter registration. After all, Paul Newman and Daffy Duck rarely show up to vote.

Then what's the problem Deanie? Id's are simple to get and for truly poor people there are programs where they can get one for free. And organizations who will gladly help them get one. So what is the problem? Fact is in Ohio you can vote from home for any reason and the only ID you need to supply is the last four of your SSN. So again, what's the problem? You really need to be specific when you accuse people of cheating........I never knew it was unconstitutional to ask for an ID.........

What the Constitution does do, by virtue of the 14th, 15th and 19th Amendments, is set forth some parameters upon which a state cannot limit the voting franchise IF that state decides to offer a right to vote in its state constitution. In other words, a state can't formulate a constitution which says you can vote in a state or local election unless you're black, or a woman, etc. The same rule would apply to any federal elections as well.

Actually, it guarentees Citizens the right to vote. Not people. Citizens. You need to prove you are a citizen to vote.

Which means it's perfectly alright to:

1) Prevent non-citizens from voting
2) Prevent non-existant people from voting
3) Prevent dead people from voting
4) Expect people to satisfy the citizenship requirement by proving who the hell they are.

How are Republicans preventing or attempting to prevent legally allowed people from voting? If you say because they want to require ID I suggest you read the laws concerning voting, they clearly state one must be legally allowed to vote, the only way to ensure that is by Identification.
