Con Fact Check: Sanger - Planned Parenthood Claims

Why do conservatives keep repeating falsehoods? Is it that they are prone to propaganda?

Quotes « Margaret Sanger Papers Project Research Annex

Although Sanger allied birth control with the eugenics movement that was popular in her era, Planned Parenthood in no way encouraged abortion among black communities. In fact, none of Sanger’s clinics performed abortions before Roe v. Wade in 1973. Racism in the world of family planning tended to express itself in the reverse: blacks were often excluded from clinics offering birth control services. Here at the Sanger Papers, we frequently write about the issue of race in our newsletters and publications. Cathy Moran Hajo, associate editor of the Margaret Sanger Papers, has recently addressed this in her book, Birth Control on Main Street (2010). There were a handful of clinics that serviced specifically black communities, but these received little assistance from white activists. Cain’s suggestion that 75% of clinics were in black neighborhoods is completely unfounded. “Whatever the activists’ personal beliefs about race may have been,” writes Hajo, “there was no grand program to exterminate nonwhites or the poor.”

Sanger is a racist pure and simple. And Planned Parenthood is an evil organization that targets blacks even today they just do it in ways that the black community can't see.

Sanger espoused the thinking of eugenicists -- similar to Darwin's "survival of the fittest" -- but related the concept to human society, saying the genetic makeup of the poor, and minorities, for example, was inferior. Pivot of Civilization, by Margaret Sanger, 1922, p. 80

"The most merciful thing that a large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it."*Margaret Sanger, Women and the New Race*(Eugenics Publ. Co., 1920, 1923)

“We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.”
Margaret Sanger’s December 19, 1939 letter to Dr. Clarence Gamble, 255 Adams Street, Milton, Massachusetts

"To give certain dysgenic groups in our population their choice of segregation [concentration camps] or sterilization".....Margaret Sanger in April 1932 ("A Plan For Peace", Birth Control Review)

Sanger said, “Keep the doors of immigration closed to the entrance of certain aliens whose condition is known to be detrimental to the stamina of the race, such as feebleminded, idiots, morons, insane, syphilitic, epileptic, criminal, professional prostitutes, and others in this class barred by the immigration laws of 1924.

Apply a stern and rigid policy of sterilization and segregation to that grade of population whose progeny is already tainted or whose inheritance is such that objectionable traits may be transmitted to offspring.”
Sanger, “A Plan For Peace”, Birth Control Review, April 1932, p. 106

“It is a vicious cycle; ignorance breeds poverty and poverty breeds ignorance. There is only one cure for both, and that is to stop breeding these things. Stop bringing to birth children whose inheritance cannot be one of health or intelligence. Stop bringing into the world children whose parents cannot provide for them. Herein lies the key of civilization. For upon the foundation of an enlightened and voluntary motherhood shall a future civilization emerge.”
Sanger, What Every Boy and Girl Should Know, 1915, p. 140

Margaret Sanger appointed Lothrop Stoddard as a board member of the Birth Control League (the forerunner of Planned Parenthood). What did Stoddard think about Nazi eugenics? Author Stefan Kuhl writes (5):

When the Nazis came to power, argued Stoddard, they started to increase "both the size and the quality of the population." They coupled initiatives designed to encourage "sound" citizens to reproduce with a "drastic curb of the defective elements." (7) Stoddard personally witnessed how the Nazis were "weeding out the worst strains in the Germanic stock in a scientific and truly humanitarian way."

Sanger influenced Hitler….who very much admired her. Does that tell you anything?

Sanger though blacks were bad stock, inferior and like the people who surrounded her who wrote on this….they were weeds. Get rid of the weeds…by sterilizing and segregating blacks and undesirables who should not be having children.

all blacks thank you for your concerns

In 2007, in women 15 to 44 years old, 48.2 black women per 1,000 had an abortion, compared to only 13.8 white women per 1,000.

http://www.census.gov/compendia/statab/2012/tables/12s0101.pdf

which statistic is meaningless without looking at the reasons for it. maybe the white women were more fundie by percentage and don't believe in reproductive choice.

but pretending planned parenthood is somehow racist is pretty pathetic.

I didn't say they were. Just thought it was an interesting statistic.

given the tone of the planned parenthood threads, if that wasn't your point, i'm not sure what was.

maybe i'm missing something?

"Although Sanger allied birth control with the eugenics movement that was popular in her era"

Besides the Nazis and Obama's healthcare advisers, when the fuck was the eugenics movement ever popular?

When?

Why do conservatives keep repeating falsehoods? Is it that they are prone to propaganda?

because they think if they say the same thing over and over again it becomes the truth.

We have established that PP is an evolution of the Eugenics movement. Furthermore Eugenics was promoted by most democrats in the early 20th century including Woodrow Wilson and the Nazis embraced Eugenics in Germany. PP might have excluded Blacks in the beginning but it more than made up for it through the years. After the despicable partial birth abortion was outlawed state senator Obama used his influence to make sure Black women in the Chicago area would still be able to hire someone to kill their full term unborn infants. The hospital induced premature delivery and left the infants on the table without so much as a blanket to comfort them as they died. Some were thrown alive in the garbage. Obama made sure the hospital would not be required to give medical aid to premature infants and the nurse who blew the whistle on the procedure was fired.
