The days of American troops living on luxurious bases, hanging out at the coffee shop, attending dance parties and still earning full combat pay may be coming to an end. The Pentagon is considering changes to combat pay that could result in a tiered system, based on how much danger the service member is actually in.

The new recommendations come from an independent review ordered by President Barack Obama in 2010, the Quadrennial Review of Military Compensation.

We are a military family and to call any base in Iraq "luxurious" shows how out of touch CNN is. It makes it seem as if soliders are over there living in style while forgetting 4300 plus troops have been killed on or around these "luxurious bases".

Republicans spent 4 trillions there and their friends made billions. There must be something to show for all that money. They don't want to spend it here.

So you think these soldiers are living in luxury in Iraq?

Psstttt, BTW democrats voted for the Iraq war too.

We should link the pay of combat troops to our congress critters.

Review Combat Pay for a war that's supposed to have been over already? Sure, but there are still attacks happening in Iraq.

And I wouldn't exactly call doing a tour in Iraq "luxurious".

Heck of an idea!

The current salary (2011-2012) for rank-and-file members of the House and Senate is $174,000 per year.

A cost-of-living-adjustment (COLA) increase takes effect annually unless Congress votes to not accept it

Stipends for apartments, food, living, healthcare, etc. ( equals thousands upon thousands) plus tax writeoffs.

US Congress Salaries and Benefits

How Are the Benefits? For Members of Congress, Not Too Shabby | Fox News

But Obama want's to review the additional 250 dollars a soldier gets while serving in "luxurious bases" in Iraq!

"Luxury" huh? How do the CNN "reporters" live? Wouldn't you think American Soldiers deserve a little cheap R&R in Iraq? Who the fuk is CNN to judge living standards and hazardous duty pay? Cut out a single one Obama lavish campaign trips and you could pay for a year's Iraq R&R.

Congress should forgo their increase and vote it to our Military.

They also want to stop the tax free in the war zone.. or at least the way they do it. They will have to do it themselves during tax time and you know alot wont even apply for it and that is what Obama is hoping for. If our guys are on the front lines they should not have to worry about taxes or how to apply to get what they are owed..

I think many in the military know the difference between being in combat and being in danger.

Who made millions, assfucker ??
Link please ??

Of course not

No matter how luxurious the base actually is?
In fact, the reviewers found evidence that troops exposed to the most danger in many cases were receiving the smallest benefit.

and as a military family, you're 100% Ok with that, right?

Did you read the study? Of course there is not going to be a FOB PX in the middle of a mission. And if one is an officer and receives a higher base pay BUT both grades are writing off the SAME amount. The officer is not paid higher combat pay then an E-5, both are the same and equally tax deductable. The only thing that changes is that an officer has a cap on how much pay he can totally write off because he already has a higher base pay.
